SCORE trophy truck crawler

Well some of you guys know that I was on the verge of selling off all my RC stuff after the last ORCRC comp for '05. I had already gotten rid of all my Clod stuff. I even had buyers lined up to buy probably 90% of what I had left, which wasn't much because I basically had just one RTR Crawler (The Wife), which my plan was to part out. Well after the last Comp, I just couldn't bring myself to sell everything off. So I decided to totally redesign it for more of a scale looking basher instead of a ugly dedicated comp crawler.

So my goal here was to have a more scale looking RC with a lexan body and a internal roll cage intergated into the chassis kinda like a SCORE trophy truck. I also wanted 4WS, but for the 2.2 class in ORCRC the rear axle steering must be mechanically locked out, so I came up with a removable lockout link for the rear axle so I could still compete with it if I wanted to. I also wanted the electronics up high so playing in the water wouldn't be that big of an issue.

I've still got some more work to do on it - but its getting close.

I really like that rear steer quick release set up, that was a really good idea. any shots of it flexing? Nice work.

All I have to say is Sick, totally Sick! great work, can't wait to see it done and rolling.

4RnrRick 12-13-2005 11:07 AM

I have no idea on Paint yet - The problem being that I suck at painting!!!!

I don't have any flex shots yet, because I still have some bugs to work out and more trimming on the body. But its problaby around 30-35 degrees.

Its inspiration was from a trophy truck with a heavily triangluated internal roll cage. It wasn't meant to copy a trophy truck, because its a crawler with solid axles. Plus I had to put some title on the thread and it doesn't fall under the category of a Tuber or a Truggy IMO.

Awesome Rick! Do you have plans on gearing up? What are you thinking for a top speed?

4RnrRick 12-13-2005 01:38 PM

I haven't really thought much about gearing. Luckily thats pretty easy to change on this design compared to my old chassis.

And Dave you know me - I like to gear my crawlers on the fast side.

awsome i want one i want one

moonbuggy 12-13-2005 03:30 PM

why don't you just cut off the stampede tranny where it sticks out the side instead of bending tube?

4RnrRick 12-13-2005 03:34 PM

Because I didn't know how much I could cut off and still keep the motor mount portion of the tranny housing rigid. plus the body I'm using has a bubble on that side I think for the exhaust of a nitro setup, so it fit well doing it that way. It also doesn't bother me to have the tube work on each side different from each other.

thats a nice cage. looks lke it matches the body perfectly

Cole82 12-13-2005 03:54 PM

You read my mind that's the same thing I want to build. Good job on it. It's looking great should be fun to bash around with.

That was the idea! http://www.cosgan.de/images/smilie/konfus/n022.gif It took more work than I thought, but I think it was worth it.

4RnrRick 12-16-2005 09:08 AM

Well I finally got some paint on the body.I suck at painting but what ever. at least there is paint on it now.

Problem is I got a BAD toothache and have not been able to get anything done because my jaw hurts so bad. I finally got into the dentist and the earliest they could schedule a Root Canal is next week - UGH.... And the drugs they prescribed for pain only take the edge off of it for about 2 hours and I can only take them every 4.

paint

I like the paint scheme, that finished it off for sure :)

Here you go....

Finally got it out on some real rocks last night. Seems to work pretty good but I want to tweak the rear suspension just a bit more, I'm still not quite happy with it.

4RnrRick That is one cool rig. I loved the video when you goosed it. Having driven a full size buggy with a 4 cylinder subaru engine and a buggy with an 8 cylinder northstar. They both crawled well but the northstar had more fun doing it! I love the idea of a trophy class truck. The idea wheel is turning full speed now...yehaaa!!
