Depends on what you want to do with them. On a scaler I haven't had any real issues in stock form. But if you want to comp with it you will want to upgrade. Main things would be MIP axles, straight axle conversion, aluminum C's, and aluminum knuckles (RCP makes the best knuckles). Possibly the ring and pinion if you want. I used the stock ones for about 2 years before one gave out on me.

The main problem now a days, is that the upgraded parts are getting harder to find.

It is with the stock axles. Upgrade to the MIP axles, and you should never have to worry about them again. Just make sure you lock tite the set screw.

Again, it depends on what you are going to do. If you scale, then the stock axles should be OK (unless you drive hard). If you are going to COMP, then do the full upgrades.

True. I forgot to add that in. I have 4 scalers with stock axles that I have yet to brake. But my comp rig would eat stock axles almost every time I took it out. Went to the MIP's and haven't had an issue since.

cool, i got to looking at this thing and it seems like this was another one of them spare parts build i seen in the other thread. The axles have alum knuckles and stuff but it seems like they're made from axial stuff, and i was talking to the guy and he said hat he locked the axles by putting another set of spider gears in it and glued them or something to that effect- is this the correct way of doing it

it is one way of doing it. Moving one of the spider gears to lock it works fine. Using JB Weld is another way, but is permanent.

Also I have found that you need to shim the pinion tighter to the ring gear in the axles. I went though 3 sets of ring and pinion's but after I shimmed it, never had another problem. I cut a thin piece of lexan into a circle to match the backside of the pinion, and drill a hole for the pinion shaft to go though.

Also watch the pins that hold the spider gears in... I have broke a couple off, and they fall out into the inside of the diff and can do real damage if you do not stop right then, take the diff apart and pull it out. I keep running without replacing the pins with no problem.
