TLT-1 crawler...
 

Hi everyone. Im new here & to crawling. been into RC cars since the late 70s.
May need some advice, sugestions & or pointers with this.
Just bought a TLT-1 cralwer...
Has: Moab tires, 2.2 on beed lock rims, traxxas links & drive shafts, threaded alum shocks, wheel widener kit, Trans & diffs are locked, modifyed 540 (not in pics), Novak XRS speed control
Airtronics; Caliber 3PS radio, 92736 reciever, 94158 servo.

just got it al put back together & need to try it out.

welcome aboard and are you sure it has traxxas axles?

If it has traxxas axles, There most likely from a 4-tec! I think.

Pretty sure he meant Traxxas driveshafts. What transmission does it have? Traxxas or stock TLT? Welcome to the addiction.

Yah I was in a hurry (& on pain meds , hurt my back) its got traxxas drive shafts & a stock trans that was locked & has a different belt with a tensioner
Also need to do something different with the shock setup... Its still too stiff. going to try lighter oil & have a guy thats going to hook me up with a set of intigy piggy back shocks with 6 sets of different rate springs.

ya you can put them in the non crawler sec.. what ya do to your back im out with 3 herniated disks

I think its a herniated disk.. (deffanatly not a pulled muscle!) cant aford to spend 1500+ on a mri to find out for sure... So DR said give it 6 weeks & see if its any better them if its not its most likly a herniated disk & I have to have the mri anyway.

Found this cool litle plastic tonka toy car @ the good will today & thought it might work as a temporary body for the TLT-1.

Actualy looks even better than I thought it might. Still need to trim up the chasis part to fit on the TLT & look right. I have the perfect LED taillights. & some headlights that might be the right size. just have to find them. may even do some dash lights. weel see if i get that bored..;)

TLTs were the way everyone used to jump into the hobby.
Great rigs.

Go easy with the wheel widners on the stock axles. I run 3 rigs with TLTs and have eventually shifted them all over to alum or stainless axle C's, knuckles, and lockouts (straight axle).

With the shocks, before you spend too much money, run down to the local hardware and look through their spring selection. You can usually find pretty fine springs that you trim the length on to fit inside the shock bodies. For $2, you can make what you have work pretty well to figure out what you want to do next.

A used chassis and trans will make it so you can slam that body down over the wheels more.
Old school Stampede trans do not cost more then $15 used. You can ad metal gears in them later. Axial trans run $30+.

RCP does sell lockers (axle ring and pinions). They are great, but not necessary until you get into the hardcore stuff.

RCP also has MIP shafts for the TLT axles. Again, until you start breaking what you have, you can stay stock for less $$.

I've used TLT axles since they came out in comp rigs and scalers. I've only broken a few shafts, but never run wideners. I personally don't like them. This rig brings me back to the days of the Bulu and all the homemade chassis we all used to make. TLT axles are awesome to make scalers out of because the are not as wide as the Axials. I've got 5 rigs running TLT's will run them forever. I'd ask yourself what kind of rig are you after? Comp rig, Scaler, trail rig, etc. I'll be happy to answer any questions you may have. I've been doing longer than a far amount of the people here so feel free to ask. Also check the archives anything TLT related has been asked before I'm sure. well I tryed it today & th battery wont hold a charge for over 1 min.
So guess Ill have to buy one before I can do much else.

Dont realy know what I want, since Im still so new. I just wanted to try out the crawling scean & see what its all about. It looks like fun. cant wate to be able to get out & try it for real.

I need a new battery & probably a differant motor. Didnt have much torque (barly wanted to climb this tiny pile of rocks), but may be the weak battery. will most likely need a different chassis with more center ground clearance.

Anyone ever use the UTRCRC Jefferson 2.2 TLT/Pede Competition Chassis?

If so, is it any good? whats the center height? is it worth the $75 or is there a cheeper/better option out there????

Wow, man I hate to say it but the Jefferson was outdated 4yrs ago. There are probably hundreds of better options out there. Head over to the vendors section of rcc and look at chassis area. The axial swx, reign rc rook, mayhem ls2.0, there are tons of awesome chassis out there.

How about the K2-3S chassis?

If you can find a gatekeeper GC1 chassis that would turn your rig into a whole new beast
