My first crawler build update some pic's added below hi all First I would like to thank you all for such a great site and the wealth of info I have found here. I got into rc's a while back and have had every thing but a plane. I got a losi mini crawler about a month ago and fell in love and so did the girlfriend :) Then got the micro crawler for some desktop action while in the house. Well I just cant get enough so I did some searching and decided to go whit a tlt based build. I picked up all the parts to build a pede trans, got lucky and found a rock buster on ebay for 70 shipped and set out to the local home depot for the rest. Two weeks later and a lot of trial and error and I have my first prototype tlt build. So again big thanks. Pics will be up soon (update pic's added) http://i359.photobucket.com/albums/o...k/rctruck1.jpg http://i359.photobucket.com/albums/o...k/rctruck2.jpg http://i359.photobucket.com/albums/o...k/rctruck3.jpg |
Nice start Circuit Sniper! Lots of flex! What lid are you thinking for it? Are the links all-thread? IF they are, cheap fix for now is to use the tubes from 4 ballpoint pens and slide over them. What size of rod are the links? How is the COG for sidehilling? Wtih TLTs there are lots of goodies to get to make them bullet proof. Straight adapters, front C's, front knuckles, MIPs, lockers. Some of it is getting harder to come by. I run all, old school, TLTs. Post up your progress. |
thanks sweli the links are all thread and i will be putting tubing on as soon as i can get all the other bugs worked out. as for a lid the old chevy body that you can see on top of my girlfriends losi mini is on it now painted Italian red. All the tlt upgrades will come in due time. My COG is good could use some more weight up front and a lil in the rear. right now im trying to over come the massive amount of torque twist. I have had losi white springs all around moved up to oranges just on the left and it seamed to help but i don't want to get to stiff it all ready has some trouble settling out. and i just got a new steering servo for it had a s3003 on it now its got a hs-625mg its the highest torque my lhs had in stock so it will have to do for now. thanks again will list specs as soon as i get a chance |

well i went out crawling this weekend to test out my new steering servo and the stick on weights i added. all was well and i was happy with the improvements. Out of now where one of my rear lower links decides it doesn't want to be apart of all the fun anymore and splits. my lil drill motor must just be to much for the all-thread so i have put in an order to tower hobbies for the following front lower links http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...7&I=LXUUB8&P=K upper links http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...7&I=LXAMN4&P=K lower rear links http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...7&I=LXWJL6&P=K gonna try these out when they come in any other ideas or parts to try i would like to here from y'all. thanks and happy crawlin |
ok my links came in today only installed the lowers. axial lowers 101mm up front and venom creeper lowers in the back. it added a lil more length to the wheel base. i had to stretch out the drive shafts an change the upper links. also got in some batterys from cheapbatterypacks.com "thumbsup" so here are some pics (dont mind the broken plexie glass rear upper mount plate:twisted:) im working on a front dig or 4 wheel steer set up cant decide which way i want to go http://i359.photobucket.com/albums/o...1-08211915.jpg http://i359.photobucket.com/albums/o...1-08212030.jpg http://i359.photobucket.com/albums/o...1-08212111.jpg http://i359.photobucket.com/albums/o...1-08212250.jpg |

Re: My first crawler build Well after much thought(not really) and research I picked up a new unopened creeper chassis from rc-recycler. Also grabbed some creeper upper links from them, then I headed on over to rc4wd picked up some more links, metal rod ends, and other skews and bits. Update when all comes in and of course build picks, |

Re: My first crawler build Looks like a great start. But I think you mite, want to add more bracing to your shock mounts. Or make them out of thicker material, cause it mite bend on its 1st roller. |
Re: My first crawler build Well I got the links set up. Working on the electronics now. Will update with more pic later on. Will take the shock mount advice into consideration. Wish I had a hardware stores worth of Parts on hand. Think I've spent as much time building as I have sourcing parts/hardware. |
