| VERTICAL SMILE- 2.2. style
Well here is my buildup up Double J's Vertical Smile prototype chassis Sorry for crappy first picture, better ones down a little. Got some serious work done now she rolls, only concerns right now are the upper links are going to be too short in relation to the lowers. It is causing the suspension to bind, still will flex up on a 6 cell battery. I had to make small standoffs to get the uppers to not bind completely. I love the look and stance of it, right at 12.6 inches which is close enough for me. Gonna have to angle the rear shocks more down to make them soft enough. Battery will be link mounted up front, will work on the tranny mount tommorrow. One last thing, this chassis might be a little too big for a tlt/2.2 build(too wide) I don't know the dimensions of the "other" chassis out there so I could be off on this one. Stay tuned Kevin Kevin |

Your width looks fine. Your bottom links are pretty inline with both axle mount and chassis mount. Good job with the build!

how about a shot with the skid in place? Looks good I like it. If I end up doing a "2.2 VS" it will be 6" long X 3.75" heigh the width can always be changed and I will lower the mounting plate for better CG. If this goes into production. There will be more holes for more mounting options both 4link & shocks. Thanks for testing this out hope it runs good for you. |

I think I like the frame with the sanded finish on it. Not so damn "bling bling" like everything else out there. "If I wanted bling I would have build a shelf queen." |

Yeah the look of the chassis is fine, I don't want a shelf queen, if you can't tell by the condition of my shocks and axles. I didn't even clean them before I built this up. I am in the process of mounting the tranny so I will get the pics of the underside of the chassis with skid mounted in a bit. I am going to use the skid you made. Kevin |

Pics are loading, do I get a cardboard cookie for being the first one that runs. Okay it is only front wheel drive right now, rear driveshaft glue is drying. Kevin |

Yet another double post: Hey Double J you might want to cover your eyes, don't look at what I did to your chassis! Underside with the double J skid A little grindage to clear rear driveshaft Had to change the standoff on the front right side, left side in pic to clear front drivshaft From the front I know the front is a little off kilter to one side I will have to adjust cuz of the standoff change. Oh well I tried Microgoat. I just ran mine outside. I am impressed. I ran a 6 cell aa pack on top of the servo stock mabuchi It ran good enough for me to grenade my rear ring and pinion!!!!! I am going to try for some more center ground clearance. The curved skid worked pretty good for the preleminary run, even has some scratches! Kevin |

You'll want to put some kind of brace across the top of the chassis on the side you cut out so it doesn't buckle. I know it's made of 3/8 plate, but it wouldn't hurt to throw a little reinforcement in there.

I figured I would, just to be safe. Probaly wouldn't buckle under normal circumstances but in a roll off of a ledge it could . Now does anyone have a ring and pinion they want to send me. Kevin |

What is the complete width of your axle. I can make it wider or I can lower the mounting plate and combine the two holes to make one so that the tranny can fit inside with out having to cut the chassis up. Let me know. OK now you have to try and break the chassis. Lets see what it is made of?? I don't mean running it over with you car or anything like that but you know what I mean. |

Will have to wait on trying to break the chassis, I managed to break my rear ring and pinion. Complete width of axle? What you mean, Willis? Did you mean tranny? Making one to be a direct fit for a stampede would make it an easier sell. Not too many on here willing to start cutting on a $ ______ chassis they just bought. Get back to me on what dimensions you need. Kevin |

It ain't gonna break. Axles break, driveshafts break, links break, but you're only going to break a chassis by dropping it off a cliff, or making it out of material that's too thin in the first place. I'll beat mine like a redheaded stepchild, but that chassis isn't going to break. |

Yeah like Microgoat said you won't break this chassis. My 4yo son got pissed at me and threw mine at the wall. All it did was laugh at him. So he kicked it and needless to say his toes are swollen . With as far as the screws go into the cross braces I don't even think driving it of a cliff will break the chassis itself.

Yes I was wanting to know the deminsions of the tranny. I will try to make it adapatable for a variety of setups. If I know the size of the tranny then I can make adjustments. If you see any changes that need to be mad then post-m up. I want to make this as versitall as posible. I may also include the 4links as an option, I get aluminum rod for a real good deal so it wouldn't be that expensive for me to add custom sizes (at buyers request). If you can PM me the sizes that you used then I will have something to refernce to. I like the way it looks, THANKS Let us know if you have any problems or an overall feel of how the chassis works out for you as you continue to run it. Do you see it being a good comp chassis? |
