| Easy TLT Knuckle Tierods and Weights
I have here three different Pushrods / Tierods / Turnbuckles that work perfect as linkages for TLT steering. #1 is traxxas #5319 -- Black Steel Pushrods for the Revo #2 is traxxas #5139 -- Stock Rear Tierod for Widemaxx #3 is proline Titanium Turnbuckles to replace my bent #5139's Since I had all three sets just laying around, I figured it wouldnt be bad to see what a weight difference I could make between the three. revo pushrods- - 1.26 oz or 35.6 grams stock maxx links- 0.86 oz or 24.3 grams ti links - - - - - - - 0.47 oz or 13.2 grams. The revo rods are 2.7 times heavier than the ti. That is a pretty big difference! If you are looking to reduce weight then it is 22.4 grams (0.79 oz) reduction for revo substitution, and an 11.1 gram (0.39 oz) reduction for stock maxx shaft installation. Find 16 places to shave an oz and you have one pound gone. All weights include vehicle specific ball ends ( heim joints if you will). The only reason why I care-- If my linkage is below the knuckle, more weight isnt all bad. It is below the axle/ drive line, which is a good place to be. If my linkage is above the knuckle, then it is above the axle and will only push the CG higher above my wheel nuts. If almost all weight could be concentrated below a horizontal line connecting front and back wheel nuts, the CG would be all kinds of low on the crawler. An example is mounting the batteries under the knuckle on clods and txt's. Comments? Rants? |
