Default *UPDATE* My first crawler build

Click the image to open in full size.

It will have all the standard stuff to begin with, but will evolve from there. I work in a machine shop that manufactures paintball marker accessories and I have plenty of time on the manuals and CNC's to make some custom stuff. I got this body off eBay but will fabricate the next one.

Here in the nearly completed TLT Crawler. I could not get used to the stinger, so I cut it off and gave it some fresh paint. It is very hard to get powdercoating off with a sand blaster. Anyhow, just a radio and a few panels and it will hit the rocks this spring. Cheers.

I am thinking about buying that same chassis from that guy. Tell me if you think it is worth it.

The chassis is built with 3/16" steel tube. It is symetrical and true. The stinger is too long, but I don't really want to modify it so it will stay that way. It seems the shocks will be near vertical when finished. The panels look like carbon fiber on the auction but are clear plastic, painted to look like CF. The panels are poorly cut and finished, in fact I received two different colors. I fabbed new ones out of 1/8" 6061T6, but it is heavy and I will eventually make some true carbon fiber panels. I will only run about 2" of clearance and run rock skids on the bottom giving it a low stretched stance. I plan on using 4 wheel steer and running the aluminum beadlock wheels from RC4WD.

Here are the latest pics. I wish the shock mounts were more vertical, hopefully it won't affect articulation. I made the links at work in the machine shop. I am replacing the aluminum panels with carbon fiber next week. I still don't know if I will keep the stinger or cut it off. That's it for now. I will update with new photos next week. Thanks for the interest.

The plastic panels are clear lexan, about 1/8" thick and painted to look like carbon fiber. The panels were not cut straight. It's nothing that can't be worked with though. I ordered some real carbon fiber to do the panels. The other thing I don't like are the location of the shock towers and the angle of the nut welded into the center of the towers. All these things can be modified and made to work. All in all, the next one will be built by me.
