Man, you have some sweet rigs there!

Those chassis sound nice, but I'm really trying to do this as cheaply as possible. I'm not good enough to do comps. I'm really just trying to make a bulletproof beater more than anything, so I guess that makes it more comp-ish than scaler-ish.

Please do post up some pics of your TLT rigs if you can. Im open to all possibilities.

As far as the Pede tranny, its not locked or glued, but I have plenty of parts and experience to make it happen. When you explore the high speed route of the mighty Rusty, you haphazardly become an expert at the subtle nuances of the Pede/Rusty/Slash tranny and how to make it bulletproof (hint: at ultra high rpms, bushings dont blow up). Like I said, Im open to all ideas for this, including bodies and whatnot.

So far it's still a pile of bits!

TLT Axles (obviously).
Aluminium hubs
Aluminium C's
Aluminium rear lock outs
Integy 55t motor
Pede/R2D Trans, I've got both and can't decide which one to fit.
Slingshot chassis
Traxxas Half Shafts (#1951),
Traxxas Steel Output Yokes (#4628X)
Traxxas ball joints Part number 5347
Proline Moabs
Junfac Beadlocks
TMAXX shocks

I figured that I'd build it cheap and then figure out where to improve the build as I got used to it. That ws a couple of years ago!

I got sick then got busy at work then got busy doing everything but the crawler.

Now I've just made a fresh start on the build.

I don't want a scaler and I'm not really going to be comp ready either, I want something that can improve as I do and be fun on the way.

Hey, that's a decent pile of parts!

So you need links......
Traxxas Jato rod ends are cheap and strong.
http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXKMD6&P=7
You'll need 16 ends.

Your local hardware should have 3ft stics of threaded rod. Like 3/16 or 6/32.

To cover the links.....
Hardware should have alum tube in 12 or 36" lengths.
Or hard plastic tubing sold by the foot.
On the cheap, you can cut four cheap ballpoint pen tubes to fit.

If you are not using 4WS, then you might consider rear axle straight adapters to make the axle stronger.

With stock TLTs, make sure you shim the main diff ring gear between it and the bearing. If it is too loose, it will strip a tooth much sooner.
Usually takes a couple pcs of 5mm shims, or a thin washer.

Yep I've got those parts as well, our local hardware store does 4mm threaded rod and 6mm x 1mm Aluminium Tube.

All of the original Motor and Tranny has gone south and will be replaced with the 'pede or R2 tranny.

The 4WS is gone, I fitted my Lock outs today, Axle C's will go on next week, then it'll be the main build onto the chassis.

I've only got the electronics to sort out, this isn't my strong point so I'll be asking for some help here.

I've got a HPI Land Rover Defender body but I think the profile might be too high and also give me wheel to body clearance issues, if it turns out to be wrong I'll go for either a bug or a HPI Dodge Ram.

The 'Pede tranny wont fit in the Slingshot frame, so the R2 it is.

Are you going to make it somewhat of a scaler?

I don't think so

I'm more into comp crawling but not good enough to really compete, I just want a rig that works well and looks cool.

I like the idea of doing both. Compromise do everything to make it work great and have as much scale appearance as possible. Comps are fun but they have a time limit and make you rush and I make bad decisions when I rush and break parts. So I shy away from then a little and tend to trail run and follow the leader a lot. Good fun!
