Default To widen or not to widen?

So I built your average SW2 and it does awsome and all. Right now from outside of tire to outside of tire i'm at 9.75, now is it worth getting wideners? I know alot of guys run them, but does it really help? I would get the ones the crawler store sells. Thanks for your opinions.

there r pro's and con's tp wideners............. it helps stability on off camber crawls but wider axles seems to getr snagged more often. i run wideners becuz my chassis ( jefferson) requires it for shock and tire clearance.

I run widners on both of my sw2's. thunder techs on the one and gmades on the other. I personally like them for the added stability in off camber sitiations.

i run the tobee craft 32 mm wideners on my sw2, i think they work really well, and of all the wheel wideners out there, i feel that these are the best looking/made ones on the market...

Well like said before, there are pros and cons. They help a lot with stability. But they also put a greater strain on your servo. So if you're running something under a 645mg hitec, then you might want to get a 645mg or something similar, depends on the brand you prefer.

So i'm looking at Tobee Craft wideners on ebay and like how its the whole axle stub piece but when it says "48mm" does that mean per side? Which would be the closest to the crawler stores widener width?

I am going to run without wideners this time, they seen to break axle housings.

I figured I would have to adjust my driving accordingly, but the new truck is low too.

Yeah thats another bad thing; they put a lot of strain on the axles.

Really what ever gets you 10"-10.5" should be fine.

I'm also running an SW2 at 9-3/4" and thinking about wideners?

After reading this thread, I'm still undecided. lol

I BELEIVE IT IS 32MM PER SIDE, I'D HAVE TO LOOK AT MY TRUCK WITH THE CALIPERS TO GIVE A DEFINATE ANSWER ON THAT, BUT I'D GO WITH THE TOBEE CRAFT, BESIDES GIVING YOU THE WIDENERS AND ALL NEW LONGER AXLES, YOU ALSO GET A REALLY NICE SET OF BLUE ALUMINUM HEXS, PINS, AND NUTS.....

But you do run blackfoot tg-10 axles, spacers and offset wheels that are narrowed. Basically the same track width.

I can only speak for going non-widened for that is all I have ran. I think my rigs have side hilled with widened rigs quite fairly. I have never measured, but so far, I am happy with the narrower track. I'd say, if you are competing, try to get the narrower stance to work to edge out a little extra clearance between cones. At least just leave your rear narrowed anyway since it is non-steering. Just my suggestion.

I will most likely not go any wider than stock width axles.

i've been bashing he hell out of my 32mm tobee craft's and the truck stood up well, and thanks for the clarifacation on the size, i did my post on the size at work, and didn't have the truck in front of me to clarify the size. i'm runninn the masher 2k's un-narrowed, too, and i also got an 11 1/4 O/O dimension there, too, BUT on my truck it works a bit better cause i'm running a slightly bigger wheelbase at 14" C/C of my axles....

Not even close to the same track width. My bronco has a 8.75" track width, I don't know anyone that is running a rig that narrow.
