ORCRC Project: Ford SuperCrew TLT. Something Different! (Pic Hi folks, I wanted to build along wheelbase Trail Truck that would be more stable on steep inclines, have decent articulation, and utilize a couple nifty features. It's got a Lathe motor bolted to a GD600 bolted to a Tamiya 3-speed semi tranny. That feeds a custom transfer case (found it on German Ebay), and from there power goes to 2 locked TLT axles. It's got Savage bumpers bolted to the frame, a front winch with skidplate, rear receiver ball, and mini-servo for tranny shifting. 1st gear is a very slow crawl, 2nd is 'good power-good crawl' and 3rd is pretty quick. Tires are 1/8 Proline Buggy Badlands on custom Ofna/Traxxas wheels. These things hook up nicely, but have yet to prove themselves outside. The backup tires are narrowed Masher 2000's on narrowed HPI wheels. So far, the only negative I see is the lack of under-chassis ground clearance. I might end up raising the tranny and transfer case, which would help, but it's got a full underbody aluminum skidplate to help it 'slide' over tall obstacles. http://www.gerrish.net/PDRM3121s.jpg http://www.gerrish.net/PDRM3120s.jpg http://www.gerrish.net/PDRM3118s.jpg http://www.gerrish.net/PDRM3116s.jpg http://www.gerrish.net/PDRM3115s.jpg Note the 'behind the axle' steering setup. http://www.gerrish.net/PDRM3099s.jpg http://www.gerrish.net/PDRM3098s.jpg An early shot of the chassis during construction. Re: ORCRC Project: Ford SuperCrew TLT. Something Different! super nice |
Re: ORCRC Project: Ford SuperCrew TLT. Something Different! Great! Thats Just what I was thinking for my Next TLT ,A 3speed trans. |
Re: ORCRC Project: Ford SuperCrew TLT. Something Different! you really are an amazing fabricator. I've got a similar idea that I've been kick'n around. it's based off of a real truck done by a mag a few years ago. |
Re: ORCRC Project: Ford SuperCrew TLT. Something Different! Thanks!!! PS: The wheelbase is 13". |
Re: ORCRC Project: Ford SuperCrew TLT. Something Different! man is that ever nice! i just love your fab work and scaled crawler! how do those badlands crawl? i got a set on my xtm xterminator buggy and they grab very well on packed mud! |
Re: ORCRC Project: Ford SuperCrew TLT. Something Different! I'm hoping the Badlands will crawl well on slick rock, and perform well in general dirt and terrain. I'll report once I've taken them outside! Ryan |
Re: ORCRC Project: Ford SuperCrew TLT. Something Different! there very soft so they should hook up good, just cut off a few nobs |
Re: ORCRC Project: Ford SuperCrew TLT. Something Different! Nice rig!! You OR guys do a great job with this stuff... I can't wait to build a scale rig. I'm surprised a thin lexan body can look realistic when done right too. |

Re: ORCRC Project: Ford SuperCrew TLT. Something Different! So do the ORCRC guys buy paint from the same place or do you guys intentionally have the same color rigs? Great looking truck. I absolutely love the bumpers. Tires look good with the body as well. How is under axle clearance, doesn't look like you have much with the buggy tires on. |
Re: ORCRC Project: Ford SuperCrew TLT. Something Different! That is so cool, you build the most original trucks I've ever seen. The thing I like most about your creations is that you don't need thousands of dollars worth of CAD equipment and mills and such to build them. Nothing wrong with machining your own stuff, but most of us don't have the tools or training to do that. From the looks of it, you scratch build your's with common materials and tools. Very cool. |
Re: ORCRC Project: Ford SuperCrew TLT. Something Different! Hust can't get enough of the scale looks these days!!! Nice work all the way around!! ....Tom |
Re: ORCRC Project: Ford SuperCrew TLT. Something Different! Nice work. Go for the second time for ride of the month in RCCA! But... do you have a 4 link? Do you have some better fotos of it? |
Re: ORCRC Project: Ford SuperCrew TLT. Something Different! Thanks yall! The truck is 4 linked- I'll try to get some better pics up eventually! CWDU: Thanks! I love to build custom stuff, and find that my favorite tools are a Dremel and Drill. It might not look like a 'blinging' show-truck when it's done, but it works and doesnt take forever to build. I get so excited about projects I want to see them done and moving, which is also why my rigs are as 'polished'. :) PLAYs_with_toys: The only olive drab and black trucks in the ORCRC club are mine. It's my 'personal' paint scheme- my 'racing' colors! Under axle clearence isnt too bad- the buggy tires are taller than the Geolandars, and lots of folks run those on TLT's... Ryan |
Re: ORCRC Project: Ford SuperCrew TLT. Something Different! Wicked scale truck!!! Does it crawl as good as it looks? |
Re: ORCRC Project: Ford SuperCrew TLT. Something Different! That truck is awesome!!! |
