| TLT Pinion?
Ok got this TLT, it does have some mods, I am wanting to change out the Pinion, Gear, it is 21 right now. I have shopped but so many pinion gears, What do I need to look for? I want the lowest like the 9 or 10, but on tower hobbies its endless. Plus I plan to install a GD600. |

The stock pinion and spur gear are metric 48 pitch, it's easier to replace both of them with standard 48 pitch. You could go with this http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...LXEY31&P=7 which bolts up to the stock carrier and any 48 pitch pinion you want like this http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...LXEX10&P=7. Check your LHS also. |

Well thanks for the replys. I have no idea, I emailed the old owner, otherwise I guess I will have to take it apart. So you do have to replace, the Spur, and Pinion both to go to a lower pinion gear. Makes since.... |

No you don't. But metric 48's are pretty hard to find. I have several RRP gears, and they work nicely. If you go to a smaller pinion, you just slide the motor to mesh the gears. Now, if you go too small pinion, yes, you will need a larger spur because the motor can only move so much.

Play now I am confused. This statement sounds like double talk? If you go to a smaller pinion, you just slide the motor to mesh the gears. Now, if you go too small pinion, yes, you will need a larger spur because the motor can only move so much. I want to go to a lower crawl speed thus swaping my 21Tooth, Pinion Gear, for a smaller one like a 12 or 10. Since the gear pattern will be futher apart, I am wondering will the Spur gear need to be replaced to match. |

Here's what Plays MEANT to say. Quote:
You dont have to replace both gears but they have to be the same pitch. A "standard 48 pitch" gear is different than a "metric 48 pitch" gear. That is why they are saying just replace both now. It is easier to find standard 48 pitch gears so future mods to the gearing will be easier. If yer putting a GD600 on there you might want to try that before you lower the gearing or else you might find it too slow. | |
