I actually bored out the Tmaxx shaft at lunch with a 1/2 inch bit. 3/8 didn't work so that was the next size up. I then started to drill a hole for the pin. But I couldn't get it to start in time.
I will use a center tap before I drill and it wouldn't do it. It's pretty hard stuff. so I'm going to try a sharper one and reset the vice on my drill press and have it lined up to drill the center.
I'll let you all know how it goes and try to get some crappy camera pics for ya.

Unholy couldn't take anymore of my pictures and we've worked out a deal to get me a better camera.. woo hoo.

Ray I got the slipper hub, spur and motor plate today. I need to find the spring and nut that I purchased and send the tranny to you.

Man things are just going good today for some reason.

I had the same problem with mine. Are you drilling new holes completly or opening up the slots in the drive cups? I ended up using a dremel with a small grinding bit to open up the slots to be able to thread the pin in all the way. MY attempts to drill it out were thwarted as the bit wanted to jam in the slot or walk sideways out of it.

Rig is look good so far.

I will probaly make a cross with my dremel to get it started now that you mentioned grinding.

moabs and plain white pedes. oh 2.2 as if I even needed to say it. I concidered rock rings but I'll have to make them and I don't know if I have the time. I was going to use a 3" hole saw(bit?) and cut it out of 1/8" thick aluminum. The small hole that it makes in the center will work for mounting the tires on and off.

Go with metal yoke's on the axle's. You wont have to drill through!

I allready have the axle end drilled and done.
I need to do the tranny end of it. The funny thing is I can cut into it fairly easily with my dremel (to make a start for the hole) then on to the drill press. The bit I had on it was like 3 months old and used alot so it could have been a little on the dull side. Well see if the new bit works, if not I'll figure something else out.

Try drilling a small hole that act's as a pilot hole. Then go into your bigger bit!

1/8 bit isn't that big to start with but it's worth a shot. I've never really need to make any pilots for a 1/8 bit. It's usually the 1/8 that I use for the pilot so it didn't even cross my mind.

anyone try the 3" hole saw for making rock rings? In theory it should work. Maybe I'll try it but I have 3 trucks to paint, 5 tubers to build and so on. DOWN the road like everything else for myself I guess.

I'm really interested to see how you end up resolving the drive shaft issue, as I'm about to start Stealth build myself.

If it helps, I did read somewhere on here that the AE drive hubs are superhardened, but that you can take off some of the temper by heating them to cherry red, then allowing them to cool naturally.

If I can't get anywhere with the bit by itself I'll have to try it. Thanks

Broke the smaller bit trying to the pilot hole. So I'm going to try some other stuff. I was able to get one hole but not until after the bit was brite red.

Any way here are the pictures of it rolling. I used the Bronco body that I had painted for RedRock Crawler. I'll be painting the one that goes on it today.

Here ya go. Let me know what you think.
