Update on the stealth tranny.

I broke 3 bits trying to make holes in these darn things and burnt one up so now it's dull. Even after trying the heating it up to red and letting it cool - didn't work.

So I went to my favorite place and purchased this. And it is currently on sale for $9.99 down from $29.99.

I used the 1/8 size and I was done in about 2 minutes for 3 holes.
I was only able to get one hole done with the normal bits and try the smaller bit size for a pilot hole doesn't work either.

I don't have this rig anymore or I would update the pics to show it with the tranny and all installed. sold it as a roller locally.

I'll start a stealth tranny thread and how to mount the everything in the week or so.

I'm curious what the wb was on that rig. Also anxious to read your thread on the stealth tranny build.

WB was like 11.5 in that area.

I'm getting ready to take the stealth apart and start snaping pics. But I'm also working on a couple of ideas for the yokes. I've been looking and searching for something that will fit just right.

On the yokes for the Stealth. If you just file a flat spot before you drill your hole it goes alot easier. I tried the heat it up trick and it sucked. So then I went over to the bench grinder made a small smooth spot on the yoke where I wanted to drill. It worked perfect.

That drill bit I purchased form Harborfrieght did the trick just right. I did grind a cross where I wanted the holes to be first since the center punch didn't do anything to the out put shaft.

So a step bit is what it takes? That's interesting. Maybe that's what I'll do. I still haven't started the build. Did you shorten the outdrives at all, or leave them long?

The only modifications I made to the outdrives was two holes. No shortening at all.

I've been wanting to get a step bit for a while but didn't want to spend the extra money. Saw them on sale and thought I would try it out. I feel this bit is the best thing. It has made it self usefull this past week. I've used all three and they are tuff and shorten the drill time. The only down side is you can't use them for long holes but you know that when you buy it obviously.
