| CheroKrawler II (Updated - Video Page 2)
Well with the failure of the first one, the redsign will consist of: 3/16 tube chasis, EMAXX tranny, 55t lathe motor, 9t pinion, and Super Rooster. Going for a 13" wheel base, 3 to 3.5 center clearance. Haven't decided on the an driveshaft yet, REVO, TRAXXAS slider, or Jugg. Any suggestions? Again, I based it of my XJ...an old version!!! This a mock up with the top half of the chasis to double check everything is in scale (the battery was only used to hold the front half down). Joe |

It'll probably just be a tuber. I would if you could find some get like a sheet or two of lexan and make your own body panels. Then it'd look even more scale to your truck. For driveshafts, I would just stick with some emaxx shafts. Revo's are a bit overkill for these trucks. Personally, I'd rather have a traxxas driveshaft blow out then a more vital tamiya component in the axle, since traxxas parts are easier to come by. It should be good, what shocks are you going to go with? |

I've searched everywhere on the net and LHS's and no one makes a Cherokee body or model. Just Grand Cherokee's. So it's just tube and some body panels to get the resemblence.

Looks good, I like the cherokee theme. I would stick w/ 2.5 maxx shafts for a scale rig, they should be strong enough. |

one thing I see it that you need to extend the cage off the back a little bit to give it some more scale appearance. Other than that it looks great man!

Well the tranny showed up and this now project has taken another turn. I had it all mocked up and tested the articulation. Needless to say the squared rear of the frame limits articulation...badly! So now I'm just applying everything I've seen and read about building a crawler. The priorities have changed...capabilities is what's important now, instead of looks. That'll come later. It's still scale, but it's starting to look like some alien erector set w/ Mickey Mouse (the tranny) sitting in the middle of it. |

In the picture, just remove the lowest bar on your chassis in the back. It'll still have the squared look of the cherokee, and like I said, get some lexan sheet to fab up some skins for it, and that'll hide your tranny a bit. Also, get some more pics! |

Being a Cherokee owner myself, I love your idea. It's pretty cool how much your tube frame resembles the real vehicle. Seriously, with some strategic placement of lexan body panels, it will look like the real thing. Keep the pics coming....we need updates!!! |

The chasis is complete. NO binding and excellent articulation (between 70 - 80 degrees). Still need to pick up a Super Rooster, Lathe Motor, 9t pinion, 2nd battery and some decent shock mounts. Then it's play time again while address the body design. Wheelbase is 13.5" Center Clearance is 3.5" TLT axles EMAXX tranny Traxxas Sliders MAXX shocks w/ 50 wt oil (I guessed on the oil) Still have make the rear axke skid |

Nice! Those look like hotbodies shocks, so I'll give you this advice, make sure the shock mounts at the axles aren't pinched at all. I've broken 3 hot bodies plastic shock ends. I just upgraded to traxxas and haven't had a problem yet, but I only had a few runs on it today.

Does having the battery pack on that one side make it tip over on that side? Seems like it would.

The second battery will be mounted on the opposite side to balance it out. I really won't know until I get the rest of the parts and get it running.

Here's clip of CheroKrawler. The first scene is me crawling in the garage (I'm all finesse), the last 2 scenes is my friend (he's all throttle). My ESC (MC230CR) worked like sh*t w/ the P2K motor. Reverse wouldn't work. But now it works great w/ the Integy Lathe. Go figure! http://www.one18th.com/gallery/albums/album01/nwj.wmv |
