Please forgive my ignorance, but why is the "cab" set to one side? Are my eyes that bad, or is there a Damn Good Reason for it?

The real moon buggies are built that way, if you search the internet, you will find a lot of pics and information on them!

I figured you'd drawn inspiration from the full scale buggies, I just wondered why they are built that way? Driver comfort seems to be pretty easily ruled out. I must say that your MIG skills definately outweigh mine, I had to weld my "tuber" with solid rod instead of tube because I kept burning though it. I tried turning the welder down and different wire, just comes down to being better at it I guess.

Run2, what are you welding with? I know it's a mig welder, read that much already. I have a Lincoln that is about 15 years old and does fine for welding real car stuff; but getting the heat low enough for doing tubework is tough. I basically have to do a hundred little tack welds all over and rotate areas to spread heat/stop burn-through. Like someone else posted, maybe it's not the welder and you've just gotten to be that good at it?

The moonbuggy tuber looks great! If it were mine, I would add a brace under the downward pointed tube between the shock hoops. If it stays lightwieght you might not have trouble, but I'd be a bit worried about it bending in a good tumble.

I use a Snap On Mig Welder. I don't think they even make it any more. #y205b. It's 208/240v and the wire can be .023-.045...I have been using solid rod instead of tubing. It's cheaper, stronger and easier to work with. Of and I would beat money that Moon Buggy it's going to bend. We had 350lbs on top of it. And that's with out a skidplate on it.

I've been using solid rod too, my rig has a few more "tubes" than yours but it still is not heavy by my standards. I burnt up enough brake line to make probably three or four chassis before I decided to switch to solid rod. I also tried to braze it, with very little luck. My joints just weren't strong enough. Now with the mig and solid rod, I can burn the weld in and I have all the confidence in the world in the joint. As for the rod bending, I agree with you 100 percent, it's tough to bend with it in a vice. Needless to say the triangular cells you have formed in your buggy will more than hold up to any abuse you can throw at them.

I should have the chassis done this week. Hopefully Wednesday or Thursday. I'm thinking of seting the front with a four link and the rear with just 2 link with a track bar. Just like the 1:1's.

You now what? The more I look at it. Now I can see that 3rd upper link mounted on top of the pumkin. 3 link and panard it is. Thanks for pointing that out. Hopefully I can build a close to scale Moon Buggy that work well.

As I understand it, the driver sits right next to the tranny and xfer case to keep the CG as low as possible rather than sitting above it.

Why's that panhard not level with the axle?
