My K2-3L build Kinda. I ordered quite a few pieces today, and my PayPal account and subsequently, Mastercard, show it. So far: K2-3L chassis (well, as soon as I get a PM to pay for it anyway) Bandit trans (and an 87t spur) Evader BX front shocks (I wanted something longer than a TC shock) Moabs Revolvers Super Blackfoot axles (stupid me only ordered one set though. I called TH, too late) Revo ends and balls MSD link/servo mounts Bearings from Walawala Oh yea, and a TLT-1 from Ultimate. So, now I wait. However, I need to ask questions. And yes, I searched, but.... The revo ends. I got these. Do I use 4-40 or 6-32 rod? I know I could've gotten some already made up, but this is more fun. I suppose brake line can be used to cover them. I kinda get the idea that the stock 'Pede driveshafts will work, but it's recommended to get metal yokes. Is that for the tranny side? How does the shaft connect to the axle? I've also read that Maxx shafts work too, same question. I have Revo's on my TXT, but I think that'd be a little overkill for this. Maybe once I get the TLT in my hands it'll be clearer. I can get the needed parts locally, I hope. Electronics.... I'll wait for now. I'm thinking a silver can should get me started. :) I'll "borrow" the SR and a 645 from the TXT. Body, yea, haven't thought about that yet. With the Moab's, a Courier would probably be a little small. I guess I need to narrow it down before I build links. Here's to waiting for the US mail!!! "thumbsup" |
nice i went on a k2-3l shopping spree a few days ago chassis, shocks, knuckles, links and body.... feels good dont it? |
Just got mine runnin today after a couple weeks of parts flow. Still have alot of details but by far the best build I've done. I am going for a more scale approach. Have fun with it. |
For a body, hows about the ... Would make a good lookin retro truck IMO ... |

I have the extra, clear TXT-1 body, so maybe I'll use that. |
any pics? How is the build going? |
I could take a pic of my mailbox if you'd like. The chassis shipped today, and the stuff from Tower should go out tonight. Where I live I get stuff in two days from them. The tranny and shocks should be here sometime this week too, if the seller used Priority Mail. I spent some time looking at bodies. I'm digging the Pro-Line Escalade EXT. I think there's also a new Baja Bug body that's LST sized. I'll probably have to get my LHS to order me another set of Blackfoot axles. |
Sorry, had no idea that the build was still going on and is in the process. I love getting things in the mail, it feels like a christmas present from yourself that is not properly wrapped!! |
Hey.... Where's the pics? I gots to seem them :-) 8) |
This is the best I can do, since I doubt you sent it out Express or Fedex Overnight. :) http://www.fromtheasylum.com/april2006/mailbox.jpg |
The revo ends. I got these. Do I use 4-40 or 6-32 rod? you need to get 8-32 all-thread. also pick up a couple of 8-32 nuts to chase the threads after you cut it. you'll be fighting the rodends if you don't! |

Well, I got some stuff yesterday. I started on the wheels. Got one Revolver narrowed. I was aiming for 1.5 inches, but a sharpie line is a sixteenth of an inch wide, so.... :) I did it by cutting off the bead right at the line, and cleaned it up by sanding it on a piece of 100grit paper. Then I had to figure out how to cut the big piece down to the desired width, and keep a straight line. So, I chucked a wheel on a blackfoot axle into my DeWalt cordless drill. Then a little tweaking so that it turned true(ish). http://img29.imageshack.us/img29/4568/drill.jpg By jeckler at 2012-05-04 I put a hacksaw blade in a vise and fired up the drill. I managed to get a little ways through, and then it started jumping. So I finished by hand, rotating the wheel as I punched through so as not to cut off the hex. There were a couple high spots, so had to sand those down so that it was mostly flush. From there I used medium CA to glue the two pieces back together. http://img705.imageshack.us/img705/9655/wheelsq.jpg By jeckler at 2012-05-04 Next up I narrowed a foam. I eyeballed it..... http://img256.imageshack.us/img256/3469/foams.jpg By jeckler at 2012-05-04 Assembled http://img842.imageshack.us/img842/1713/moabd.jpg By jeckler at 2012-05-04 Comparo.... full width foam and Revolver on the right. http://img23.imageshack.us/img23/7233/donebna.jpg By jeckler at 2012-05-04 I think it's time for a Dremel or drill press. Hopefully the chassis will show up today, and I need to go get some all-thread. |
looks good! Come on chassis, hurry up!! |
mine showed up last night but the kinks and a few other things wont be in til next week... i gave myself til january for this one too. i need a tranny, body, shafts, motor/esc, links and a reciever... geez i better get to work... |
It's DONE!!! Some more stuff arrived today, so I rushed home and put it all together...... http://img40.imageshack.us/img40/6301/donejk.jpg By jeckler at 2012-05-04 Hardy har har. The frame weighs in at 9.1oz. with shock hardware and the tranny screws. I got some all thread today, and as can be seen, the TLT itself showed up. I'm still waiting for the link mounts, tranny and shocks, and bearings. I cut the beads off the other 3 wheels, but I think I'm gonna pick up a drill press tomorrow to do the actual narrowing. $40 at Harbor Freight. Gettin' there. |
