After I assembled my chassis for the first time I got an idea that I need to share.

Using 6 shocks instead of 4.. 2 being somehting short and cheap...

use MGT or MAXX lowers instead of uppers and using the stock shock mount on them to put a single shock in the middle this would give you your height without even efecting articulation at all. sorta like how a stick crawler works This would make My chassis Much much narrower which I dont see that as a bad thing... just thinking out loud.

That transmission looks beefy. Nice find for 7 bucks. As long as it will fit a big enough spur and small enough pinion, should be ok...

the Transmission is out of a toy tank.. I found them online as complete trannys or just a metal gearset
I just bought 2 more from Mato Toys International...So I have 3 currently.

Right now they have them listed for $15 for 2 of them including a brushed 380 or385 motor (never looked)

Plus they have just the metal gears for $8.43 You could make your own gearbox (my original plan) using the gears and have any amount of reduction you want.

Default 3link

I would not have it any other way... there is zero side movement no matter what you are doing. Im actually considering mounting a servo in the chassis to see if I cna get away with it.

How does the transmission work for you? What pitch are the gears? Would it be easy to find a pinion if I just purchase the gears is what I really want to know. Sorry for all the questions.... I am considering buying from them as well for my custom chassis build. I think these gears can be re-arranged and used to build a compact gear box.

Yes, Im sure the gears can be rearanged. be carefull they are POT metal and do not react well to heat, when I made my outdrive I melted one gear trying to solder it to the new shaft... I indended to do so, but got lazy. The output gear rides on a 5mm shaft which I replacesd by using the bushing from a second transmission and a longer shaft with Ds cut in both ends.

I am using a 48p pinion But I do get a slight gear whine that I actually like but It does mean that the gears might be metric. Its close enough for me though.

Got my savage shocks yesterday
