Kind of sucks, I have two rigs that work so well that's it's hard to choose which one to run. Guess it could be worse, I could have 2 rigs that both suck! Last edited by dezfan; 02-04-2007 at 11:44 AM.

Dez, if you're having some GC issues with the BMVII, you might want to take a look at doing what I did. Getting the plates up off of the axles will make a sizable difference in overall GC. Glad to hear that you did so well at the comp. I wish I could have made it. |

I am pretty sure he is using a wedge for that purpose. I may be wrong but I thought that he posted that a while back in this thread.

Nope. The wedge does nothing but help with the pinion angle of the rear driveshaft. What I did was create extensions that raise my plates off of the axles. The BMVII is designed to mount directly to the top of the axle. Here's a picture of my rear axle before I redid my chassis and created the wedge. This should help to explain what I did. On the front axle, my servo mounts directly to the axle and then the plate is above it. |

Is there a write up somewhere as to why you do this? How does it benefit the rig?

The wedge from what I have read and seen. Helps keep the rear drive shaft up and out of the way. By rotating the axle up.

The wedge simply rotates it up and out of the way, simple and ingenious! I may add some kind of a spacer design to mine, I think if the 2.2 Badlands would have been on the Shadow for the run on the course I did after the comp instead of the Mashers, I would have aced it. The Shadow cleared every gate and the bonus as easily as the Grunt w/ the exception of 1 designed to really test center chassis clearance. W/ the 2.2 Mashers, I got hung up just enough to have to finesse and throttle my way over it. I was thoroughly impressed w/ it's performance. Last edited by dezfan; 02-05-2007 at 09:16 AM.

Exactly run2jeepn. With my rasing the plates off of the axles, it exacerbated the angle between the tranny's pinion and the axle's (see first pic below). The yolks wanted to bind a bit. By adding a wedge to the rear, it allows the rear axle to "clock" allowing for a more direct angle between the two pinions (see second pic). No wedge: With wedge: |

Dez did your Mashers have those AirSoft BB's in them still? I guess the axles held up fine with that added wieght. Man I bet that Grunt looked sweet with those Badlands on. |

I remember sizing up the Shadow with the Badlands to mine. I believe that we had almost the exact same amount of GC, right? Where I saw the HUGE advantage of having the Badlands was in axle diff clearance. You had quite a bit of much needed diff clearance. I'm going to be watching you and how the Badlands perform. I may end up going that direction and lowering my chassis plates at that time...or build another one so I can have one set up each way! Unholy, do you think that there will be any sort of ruling on the use of tires like Dez's "frankenstein" Badlands on a 2.2 rig for the '07 season? That would be my only hesitation. I will have to say though that the Shadow looked pretty bada$$ with the Badlands on on it's maiden voyage (less the axle clicking, of course!!) |

So if I have a rotatable/adjustable axle such as the K1 axle and portals from RC4WD would this mod still be of benefit?

Like you stated, my axle and chassis clearance are sweet w/ the Badlands mounted up! And yes R2J, the axle held up fine w/ the Airsoft BB's. We'll see how they do over time.
