Thanks Dez, for explaining the tranny's! Very helpful. For the pede tranny do you think the gear reduction is good, useful? It is the gd 600 at tower i think. How does that work and how is install? Thanks dude!

I'm probably the wrong person to ask about the Pede as I have never owned or used one.

But I see lots of other use them w/o a gear reduction.

Just use the correct size spur and pinion.

Not that its extremely applicable but it would be cool to have some of the other trannies crawlers use, and not just the comp rigs.

The following:
High Lift 3 speed
Bruiser 3 speed
E Maxx tranny

I have even used a Jato tranny with the single speed conversion... Doubt anybody else would try it but it was super small, very very durable, and had the traxxas outputs on it already

BTW, on the XX CR Tranny, the only good way I found to get the Maxx shafts on it was to hog out the cups on the traxxas shafts and install them over the XX Output shafts. It has been holding up very well, but mounting the tranny can be a pain, the mounting ears are kind weak, I ended up making a little Peice out of some brass that mounts to one of the motor mount screws as you can see in the pic.

just a note on the xx trans the gear case is not available new anymore.

This is true, the other downside to the XX is the tranny is so phsically short that when you put on the traxxas shafts like I did you end up running smaller spur gears, so while it's better than a TLT tranny, it is about the same ratio when all is said and done, I am running a 12T Pinion and 90T Spur, Standard 48P.

But it still crawls pretty well with a 65T, almost too slow, I am taking the pinion up a little.

Main problem is, that the tranny isn't available by itself and not many WK owners have probably ripped apart their trucks to build a real rock crawler yet, someone was building one into a crawler on here, I think he used the stock tranny and it was working ok for him, so you might check out his thread.

i bought one from john rob but arnt sure yet to use it for a scale trail beater or not. let me know if you want some pics or dimensions or anything, more than glad to split the case and snap a few or throw a micrometer to it.

That would be nice, wouldn't mind seeing if they are metal gears, plastic or what, with the case split it starts to become more evident if there will be weak spots or not. Also, if you could get a rough idea of the ratio by seeing how many spur turns it takes to turn the outputs.

I would assume it would be geared pretty short to get good wheelies, if so, it might be over 3:1, which would make it a awesome possibility in crawlers, as the Pede is only 2.72:1
