What are the popular pinion/spur combos for pede? So far I've seen 84/15-17 or 87/15-17 Also, is it the 90t that will not fit on the pede tranny with maxx yokes or will it not fit with pede yokes either?

I run 14/87 right now and like it. The 87t barely clears the Maxx shafts, 90t would probably be ok with Pede shafts.

You can run a 96t spur IF you run the Pede shafts with a steel yoke on a Pede tranny. I have done it back in the day many times, before wheel speed was cool.

Now I run a 12/87 with a AX10 trans, no more Pede trannys for me. The AX10 transmission should be added to the list. It is the best tranny out there right now as far as I am concerned.

FYI: AX10 trannys can only fit a up to a 90t spur gear, I run a 12/84 with TLT axles and it works good.

I am building a AX10 this weekend, I will send you some pics.

I lucked out and found the AX10 tranny I am running in my TLT GC-1 2 weeks ago and love it. It runs smooth and the COG for the motor is on the skid.

Thanks Dude.

That would be perfect. If you can send me the specs, I'll ad those as well.

I'm waiting on my LHS to get the AX-10 tranny in so I can pic one up. I'll probably throw it in my GC-1 as well.

Firstly, a genuine thanks to everyone on this board for providing a veritable goldmine of information. I am a complete n00b but have learned so much from this site.

Secondly, you are all b*s*tards for encouraging me to emulate you and spending a shed load of money...any tips for justifying a few hundred dollars on a 'toy car' as the wife calls it?

Thirdly, the real question: I'm building a TLT-based crawler. Should I go for a sexy AX10 transmission (can't use the word tranny in a serious sentence...) or a Stealth B4? I'll be putting it in a Penguin 2300r chassis, running a Novak Goat brushless motor & Crawler ESC. Will be using a Lipo but not sure what type yet.

I'm leaning towards the AX10 with its lower CoG, it's already locked etc. but with the torque from the brusless motor, will I miss the slipper cluch from the B4 (i.e. am I likely to bugger it first drive)? Anyone added a slipper clutch to an AX10?

Cheers.

I've never ran a slipper and haven't had any problems. But I'm not brushless either.
I'd go with the AX-10 because it's allready to go without any time consuming mods. I doubt you'd need a slipper. But if it breaks let me know so I won't give this advice again.

I bought an AX10 tranny and it didn't come with a spur gear. Is this normal when purchasing a tranny only? If so, what spur/pinion gear is
everyone running?
thanks!

The Axial tranny doesn't include a spur gear when sold separately.

Kimbrough spurs work perfectly. 84, 87, and 90 tooth gears seem to be the most popular. I use an 87 on my Axial.

Yeah it does not come with a spur unfortunately. You can buy the axial gear at tower or you can buy a kimbrough spur for about a dollar less.
This is stock but I have read that other have used taller gears without issues.

Thumbs up

A quick note on the kimbrough gears.

Unless you want the diff bearings buy the cheaper ones.

I almost bought the more expensive one on accident. It is only a dollar, but why waste the money.

I just got some revo drive shafts in the mail today.
The are pretty big and will not fit the axial tranny uness you modify the universal or run the smaller metal ones. This is with a 87t spur.

I also got 87t axial and kimbrough spurs. The axial gear is allot stiffer than the kimbrough. I bit down on both of the gears and they both seem to have the same density though. Ill have to see which one holds up better to the 3014.

Sorry to but in but I have a question about the evader trans. I am currently building a rig with two(front and back). In the beginning of this thread it says that it can be had with either a 3.52 or 4.88 gear ratio. Is this internal or does it include the pinion and spur because mine are 2.73 to 1. I checked after reading this to make sure. It would be great if they came lower, I don't have the room for a gd600 or anything like that and I am already running a 96t spur and 10t pinion.

THe Revo shafts will fit, you just need a RC4wd adaptor (link listed on 2page here) 1st page @ bottom shows a 32 pitch 66 with is Actually bigger than a 48 pitch 87t Spur.

I have mine bolted up now 87t 48p with revo shaft.
Feedback on Ax tranny

I have a Super so I think I'll go 90 with a 10 or 12 pinion

It crawled ok but then I broke my rear axle shaft and then my front Aluminum sub drive shaft:-( the tranny had no problem
