Cool PROJECT: Fish Scale a Bulu2 chassis Build-Up

Ordered the RCRockGear Bulu2 chassis, so I am starting the build-up.

PROJECT: Fish Scale

Chassis: Bulu2
Links: Self-made with Kyosho ends
Tranny(with Spur/pinion) 'Pede tranny locked with RCRG Moose Doo, 84 spur/ ?? pinion
Driveshafts:MAXX sliders, with pede yokes.
Axles: TLT, locked with RCRG Moose Doo
Motor:Integy 55-turn Lathe motor.
Shocks:4" Maxx shocks
Tires/Wheels:Pro-Line Mashers on Narrowed Grey HPI Split 2.2 wheels.
ESC: Rooster for now
Servo: Hitec HS 5645 Mg
Wheelbase:12.5" wheelbase
Width:No widners, no wide stub axles or adapters.
Weight: Unknown at this time

According to Toyo these Aluminum Pushrods for the REVO from Traxxas Part #5318x
give you a 12.25 wheelbase
Length: 5.4" (137mm) end to end including rod ends

I am going to build my own links out of brakeline tubing and threaded rod using Kyosho rod ends Tower Hobbies # LXT404. My finished length for the lower links will be 5.5 inches which should put me around a 12.5 inch wheelbase.

I will be attaching the lower links/shocks to the axle as shown in the picture.

The upper links will be mounted over the servo to a mounting plate made from 2x2 aluminum angle.

The chassis arrived with no instruction, but with a little trial and error I figured out that this was the correct configuration. I also trimmed off the A-arm mounting tabs off the Pede Trans before mounting.

Thanks for everyone input so far!

Im going to try and run the links like plays_with_toys runs all to the same point on the chassie. but i dono if it will work yet
The only other way ive seen them mounted is on top of the servo with a bracket.

im also thinkin about seeing what the stock cants will do.

Hey guys,

I've got a bunch of pics of my bulu build up. Feel free to take a peek.

I guess I have to buy a star before I can post pics,
Pics can be seen at:

http://www3.sympatico.ca/licharson/

I'm running a 12.5in wheelbase.

If you want/need pics of anything specific, let me know and I'll snap them and post them.

Dan.

I run those Pede wheels too. When I tried drilling one out, it ended up wobbling pretty bad. So I ordered some aluminum wheel hexes to replace the stock plastic ones, and tightened the wheel nuts down as tight as I could (within reason). Also, I put a little thread lock on. Haven't had any wheels fall off yet.

For building the Bulu1 or Bul2 chassis....

1 - Tranny position, spur/pinion gear face towards the rear...motor endbell points forward.
2 - Links, REVO pushrod links are great. All 8 links(Traxxas #5318X) will give you about 12.25" wheelbase.
3 - Axle link mounts, RCRG is working on upper link mounts, release date will be soon.

Here are some pictures of my Bulu1 rig setup. Don't mind the abused look of it, it had a rough day today I'm running a 12.5" wheelbase and really like it. I run only 2WS as per ORCRC's Unlimited 2.2 Class rules.

RCRG will be offering uper links mounts similar to these, but not booty-fabbed like these They will be CNC'ed like our other parts.

Ma belly...

My 3 piece rear upper link mount...

Hope this helps others.

I didn't have any instructions when I put mine together. Thus the endbell facing rearward and the geartrain facing forward. I was going by some older pictures Toyofast had previously posted. It seemed to me that in the majority of them, the spur was facing towards the front. I'll eventually tear mine down and correct it. I've had absolutley no problems with the SR mounted in the plastic tub. It doesn't even get warm. Thats with the lathe motor and running on 8 3300cells. Also keep in mind that its not exactly warm up here.

FISHMAXX I'll try and get the pics you requested up later tonight.

I haven't had a problem yet. Well, ok, once. The first time I ran it I lost a front wheel. It just sort of toppled off to one side. Since then I crank them down real tight and use just a touch of red loctite. I think I will end up ordering the Super Blackfoot rear wheel axles. Better safe than sorry. If I do that, I'll likley narrow the wheels aswell. I think that narrowing the wheels will make the tires looks a touch narrower and more to scale. I know my body is mounted a bit high, but I had to comprimise. I didn't want to hinder articulation, and I didn't want to cut off the Rubicons fender flares. I ended up trimming the flares slightly (more so in the front) and the tires only rub under extreme articulation while the steering is at full throw.

My links will be in this position attached to the top of the axle, so bending shouldn't be necessary.
