One more quick question. With tortions being so light (crawler minus the chassis weight) couldn't you get away with a 45t or even 35t motor and still have the torque because it's lighter?
Actually, you don't need as much articulation as you think. They're not boring to drive, its just specifically a comp rig. Yeah, you can still take them out in the back yard to screw around with. They're designed with an extremely low center of gravity. They're actually not very much lighter than any other 2.2 comp rig because most people put weights in the tires or on the axles. Doing so allows for better traction, while keeping the weight as low as possible. As long as you dont add that extra weight, you probably could get away with a 45t or 35t motor.

It would be done right now, minus the BL for now, but we were inturrupted on our way to the hobby shop. One of my step dads coworkers/fellow firefighters called him to come help him out because he might have had a broken leg. So, my stepdad radioed in to dispatch to have a rescue sent there and we went as well. We were about a minute and a half from the hobby shop, too. Turns out he has a broken femer and has to get reconstructed and pins put in. OUCH!

I got some work done on it today. I got the collars so all the plates are secure now. I also go my bearings from R2J today with a little bonus. He had accidently put knuckles in the package. I already talked to him and theya are paid for. All thats left is getting these damn yokes on the tranny outdrive cups. I can't get a hole drilled through them to get the pin all the way through and no matter what I do they wont stay straight. All help would be appreciated with that.

Well heres some pics...

Yeah, I was planning on doing BTA steering setup. I already have it planned out. I just didn't want to screw with it yet. I want to get it running before I do any other not absolutly needed mods. I'll try out grinding a flat spot, but I think I just need to drill deeper into the yokes. I was noticing that I only drilled to just after where the holes are for the pin to go. Thanks for the tip!

Well its done for now. Still need to get an adapter plate for the BL motor. I'm going to do some test driving before I paint the chassis and mount the body. I think I'm going to try the battery on the rear axle. The front is too heavy and it cant pull itself up a vertical wall, of course thats testing on a hardwood floor and couch. I'm really happy with the low CG. Even with this mamoth 65t it can stand on its side with no problem. I've also noticed that the star shaped foams make for a bumpy ride.

Current stats are...
WB- 12.5" (comp limit)
Width- a little over 9.5"
Center chassis clearance- 3.25"
Under axle- a little under 1.5" once they are shaved
Overall height- ~6.5 without body

Ok, on to the pics....

Looks real good. You're going to love the hell out of that truck.

Did you countersink the screws under the tranny? If not, do so. It makes a world of a difference. You might want to also round out the bottom of the tranny plate just a little bit.

I already do. Just driving it around the house is a blast. I can't wait to get it on the rocks now. If only we didn't have a foot and a half of snow.

I forgot to mention that I'm temporarly running a Moped and 65t with a 6 cell AA pack. Once I get the adapter plate I'll be running BL with 8 cell 2/3 AA pack.

I got some more work done. Painted the chassis and got the body mounted. Many of you may recognize the body. Thanks Dez!
