Default TLT "Redrocket" build up

WOOT!

i got it for one heck of a steal on ebay too, muahaha.

i might decide to go scale with this (or semi-scale)
or i might just get a jeep body, hack it up and wedge it over a custom tube chassis.
This is my first hobby grade crawler as my last was a nylint that i decked out. i want more...MOREEE!!!
lets see how it goes!

besides locking the tranny and the diffs... is there anything that you guys would recommend? have you seen that kind of battery before and can you identify it? would you recommend using it or going to a 7.2V pack....

i know nothing really about these hobby grade crawlers other than what i read. i had an electric 1:10 car and a 1:10 nitro truck, so i am not noob on RC's, but any help is good.

Thanks!

The battery looks like a stock TLT pack, for the stock set-up

that batt is too heavy! go with a custon pack from holmes hobbies or cheapbatterypacks.com i use a 8 cell 2/3a 1500mah pack and it last me at least 45-50 mins with a mamba/hyperion setup and its half the weight of that sub c pack

i saw ones with like 2300.... isnt this just the storing capacity?

also, what plugs, what wire, what pack type?

That is a stock TLT hump pack, they are 7.2v 1700mAh.
I have 2 that came with my TLT, I still use them to run a Viper RV12/Integy 65t lathe. They work fine for me.
Depends on how tricked out your motor/esc setup ends up being.

Well... finally got around to doing some mods and getting this thing together!
I started off by finding a place to mount the battery. since i want this thing to be pretty proportional to a 1:1 vehicle, i am letting the battery be the engine. Swell. Ok, now i have to figure out a way to hold the battery in place. I fabbed up this cool little mount out of 20 ga nickel plated sheet metal.

I then mounted it in the frame and adjusted and tweaked it for a tight fit.

Oh Noes! vibrations and sharp metal can cut through just about anything, so i decided to use some yankee redneck engineering and protect against the sharp edges.

Now i test fit the battery in the holder

Seems to fit quite nicely!

Now... moving on to the reciever and ESC.... the tricky part. Well, since i dont want too much weight in the back, i figured i should stick around the center of the chassis in order to preserve the weight ratio i desire.

I started by fabbing up a nice little mount that fits around the tranny and has a raised edge that will protect the RX against any stray roxxors.

Now... how to secure it... hmmm. Well, i could use zip ties... but thats just annoying and it doesnt sit flat. Also, it doesnt provide very much shock protection. what is soft and strong holding? AH! Industrial Strength Velcro! So i proceeded to cut the correct size velcro for both the reciever and ESC.

Mounting was a snap and if i ever need to service either of them i can simply pry it up from the death grip of the velcro and do what i need to do. if it comes completely off either end... it costs like $0.20 to replace.

So here is what i have so far!

Little Flex shot....

Do you all think that i sufficient flex? (i know flex is overrated but still...)

Stay Tuned for more to come!

yea the amount of flex looks good and it seems like a lot for that chassis, since its more of a scale setup. but overall it looks good.
