TLT-10 (2.2 Crawler) NEW PICS PAGE 2 (7/7)
 

Hey guys, many of you know me from RCMT. Well I decided to hop on board here after recently remembering this site existed :lol:

Anyway, for those that don't know who I am. My name is Dan, and I am about to enter as a freshman at Colorado State university to study Mechanical Engineering and will be involved in Air Force ROTC.

This truck was designed as part of my engineering class in highschool. The chassis plates and gear box pieces were machined with the school's CNC. Stats are as follows:

Robinson Racing Spur
Traxxas 4tec ball diff (locked)
Tmaxx 4-link suspension
TLT Axles
Pro-line Masher 2000's
Pro-line F-150 body (stampede)
HPI Split 5 spoke wheels
Tmaxx piggy back shocks with adjustable dampening rate
Matrix 27T (stock motor)

Very limited time. Also, the truck is no where near where I want it. I still need reverse and I need to figure out how to counter the torque roll the truck has.

I want to get together with you guys, but it probably won't be until july, as I need to pay a speeding ticket, get that reversing ESC, and unfortunately I have orientation the weekend of the 19th, so I can't make it then.

Thanks for the compliments!

I've stared at so many beautiful custom trucks and oggled them for hours, praising the builders for their creative genius. I'm just glad that a project of mine went through to completion and that people like it as much as I do.

Very nice werk Plays 8O , I love the little trucks as much as the big ones. 8)
I picked up a set up Bruiser axles on ebay an will be building a Masher2000 tire rig real soon and Ace has 2 small truks also.

Be sure to get together with us soon so we can meet and go crawlin.

Thanks for the compliments Grizz! I do want to make it out to some competitions, and I will be trying in july/august.

Life ain't too great right now for me and my trucks, so its making it even harder. I've decided to sell my 1:1 Toyota, and right when I decide to do so, my clutch master cylinder seems to be failing. I am in the process of looking for a used Subie Legacy and have found 2 nice ones in my price range, but that was the price range if I can get my truck sold... and with a car that doesn't want to shift into first/second, its a hard sale. I also need to get the reversing ESC for my TLT, and get the suspension tweaked so I am not over flexing any more.

Just kidding :wink: , I know what its like to be a poor college student, I couldnt afford a crawler when I was in school. At least you got that BFA TLT. :D Hope you can join us soon.

Why do you have the shock resovors facing the same way. I would think you would want to have them in bilateral symmetry for better balance. But I don't think it would make a big difference.

Neo, I was going to mount all 4 pointed inward, but the front ones would hit the battery. The rear ones positioned like that actually allow the rear to flex and not hit the reservoirs. But the pics are old. I currently have the reservoirs down on the links with the piggy backs towards the inside of the chassis.This allows for symmetry and no rubbing. But I plan to change that again. I plan to move the upper and lower mounting points. I am going to switch to the outermost screw hole on the chassis (currently have crossbars there) and mount the shocks to the axles. While this may limit travel/articulation, its over flexing and torque rolling enough that I will compromise with the set up.

So I decided I would work on the truck a little more today, so I put some different shocks on the truck, and instead of mounting to the links, I mounted the other end of the shock to the outside of where the upper links mount on the axle. It looks like it will be a very nice shock setup without the over flexing problem, and it might provide a better force against the torque roll. I do have to find some softer springs for the front though.

Oh, I also narrowed one wheel, as a test, and I like how it turned out, so the other three are going on the chopping block tomorrow.

I NARROWED THE STOCK TLT-1 WHEELS AND THEY LOOK ALOT NEATER THAN WHEN THEY COME STOCK

Narrowing the wheels is always a good choice....I think. As a matter of fact, I even narrowed the wheels AND tires on my little Venom Monster Mini. :twisted:

I just did the cutting off the ouside bead, and I debating glueing that to the inside of the inside bead with the lip to the inside, and glueing the tire to the inside of that (if that all makes sense), but I couldn't think of a way to then trim the inside of the wheel to clean it up and still maintain strength. Plus, its narrow enough as is.

i just got done narrowing the stock wheels and i just glued them on the outside and they havent come apart yet and thats with 10 runs on them so it's pretty strong. :)
