I have some about that size and they have held up well. I got them on a rig with negative offset wheels and it was too wide. The axle "Cs" would hang up on rocks way, way too much. I swapped for some positive offset rims off my TLT with Blackfoot axles which are 1/2 inch wider than stock and now both rigs are better. I just got some of the gmade ones which are 1" wider for a new build. I think somewhere around 1" is about right depending on the wheels you use.

Default Wideners

I use Crawford Perfomance Engineering wideners on mine, with Traxxas rear rims. The CPE wideners add 3/4" inch on both sides and are built great, the only prob I have is the Traxxas rears have to much of a inset, so Im going to switch to fronts witch are less of a inset.I too wondered if wideners weakened anything, but I did a little testing with some weights and found no sagging or drooping.
