Default Immolator gets overhauled

Decided to re-work my first crawler. My first crawler was a little unconventional and worked OK for awhile.

coil suspension was a benefit but a huge drawback also....
Reason for the overhaul?
-Too much torque twist
-Too heavy
-Very poor approach/departure angles
-high center of gravity

So when you rebuild, you build it after the "three L" rule: Lighter, Longer, and Lower (CG)

decided to make it more "comp" like. I wanted to keep the links from the first version (just because they take forever to make and are a pain in the ass )

Went with the more conventional setup with a BULU-esque type chassis and coil-over shocks.

obviously not finished, but the chassis is final (might do a little trimming in the upper rear)...also ordered some 1.5mm delrin to make a skid. Super Rooster will be in the rear as low as I can get it, receiver will be by the gear cover on the side of the chassis

later

That looks mean! I like it! Your link mounting brackets look top notch as well. Interesting idea with the half gear cover. Where are you going to mount the batteries?

Little Update...

bought some new tires/wheels , Also trimmed the front top part of the chassis. Whben articulation the shocks would bind on that part of the chassis, cut that off and I get abou 80*. I didn't cut the rear yet (want to see how the Super Rooster will fit back there first) but when I do cut it I'll get 90* easily. Then I can run slightly stiffer springs (for torque twist) and still get relativly good articulation.

also notice I move the tranny back about 5/8". I originally mounted it further up for more weight on the front tires but didn't think about how the stick pack would stick out (didn't have the packs made yet). With the tranny in the original location the stick pack was almost in line with the front of the tires. Moving the tranny back allowed me to squeeze the side plates together a little more

front

rear

still have a little bit to go:
-Mount receiver w/ antenna and ESC
-trim upper rear portion of the chassis
-make 2-4 chassis braces (probably just 2)
-make/mopunt a center skid
-make an extended front dirveshaft
-mount body posts
-figure out how to mount the batt. good
-paint/trim body

Yeah I'm going to see how the Chevy body fits, but I already bought the Pro-Line CJ-8 for this project.

The body I had on my other crawler is Parma's Clod Buster body.

more updates...

-added one more brace (under the motor)
-centered the tranny better
-made and mounted the center skid

Decided to center the tranny better. Making the motor perfectly centered is a whole lot better. The drivelines are now perfectly straight

Center skid
