|  Not sure if its been done.. Im a little nuts!!
I am going to attempt to build a super TLT rig. It will have moabs on 40's running the sled chassis ( I think). The axles will be decked out with cvd's all around and spools. What is the over under on blowing the axles up? I figure its only about .5 inches taller than some of the frankenstein tires out there... WISH ME LUCK!!

I don't know if the spools and CVDs are up to 40 series tires... but I do know the tlt stock housings are not. I mean how many housing do you see break on 2.2 tires? Edit: A lot of the frankenstein tires are on Clod axles. |

Maybe check out the rc4wd aluminum or delrin axles? They might be up to the task. I agree with Unholy, this will be an interesting test of some or the beefier TLT axle upgrades. I say go for it! worst case scenario is you have parts for other rigs. -Lex |

Two big problems I see here, well three. One, it will be way too narrow. Two, the axles will not hold up to the abuse, even if you beef up the ring and pinion the case will spread under the load of the moabs. And three, it will have driveshafts.

The hacked up tires are generally much lighter than a 40 series as well. The larger diameter rims are thicker, and so is the tire thickness.

The only 40's tire you should even think about is the Masher. It stands just over 6in.. I believe that is the shortest 40's worth anything. Anything less will be way to much. You will need to narrow them to about 2-1/4in at least. Then it won't look to bad. Also narrowing the wheel and tire will reduce alot of weight. With a light throttle finger those axle may last. Make sure to upgrade your Axle C's.

If your going for a light weight rig then go for it. Run some mashers and try to keep the WB around 16 or less and width at 13 or less. Just use the style to your advantage. You'll get some killer lines that narrow and short. The climbs will kill you though. And you'll have to take some repositions when things go bad, when the clods could force thereself out of binds but you will BREAK.

Any progress? I ran my Badlands (just under 6 inches tall) and the ring and pinion lasted about 15 minutes. Hopefully a hardened gear set will hold up much better than the stock gear set. Good luck!  |

I concentrated on getting my other rig ready for the GTG this past weekend... I am hoping to have some progress once my rims/tires come in..... I am using just straight moabs 40s for this thing...
