I am actually out of town in New Hampshire for work right now, but I brought it with me so I could clean up the welds in between work. The neighbors don't like me firing up the rotary grinder though for some reason. So I am stuck with a file for now until I can go outside and do the grinding. As you can see in the pic, I have a lot of work to do. I need to hire RokToy to do the brazing for me. My welding poop is going to be a challenge to clean, though most of it is due to lack of gas flow and not knowing it. -Sam | |

All that really matter is, if the welds are strong then it's just wanting to look purdy! Nice looking buid!

Well, the Folsom comp is RIGHT around the corner. 3 days? Yikes. So I decided to make a push and get TINY running. Not finish TINY, but instead just get it "running". There is a lot to work out at this point, so I may be making a few late nighters to get it done. Here are a couple snaps from the axle fab portion. If I have to I will just run a stock TLT axle in the rear, but I am going to make the attempt. I chose to do it the secondary way which was easiest. I basically took a long piece of 5mm round stock. Off the top of my head, I forget which steel I chose for this application. It had properties that seemed to be good for this application. We will see though. I cut it to length and threaded the ends to a 4mm nut. I then drilled two holes for the wheel pins. For the differential I was planning to make a plate that goes in between the two halves of the differential then weld it to the axle shaft. I cheaped out and just did two pin holes and used Loctite 680 to help hold it all in place. It held stuff pretty damn well on some work projects, so I am crossing my fingers that it helps hold things here in place. In the first pic, you can see the two holes. I chose to have the two pins go in at 90 degrees from each other. Will it do anything to help? I am just hoping by having more meat in between the two holes it will make it a tiny bit stronger. Yeah right. If it goes, it will go hard. In the second pic you can see the diff mocked up and installed. More to come. -Sam :-? |

| Yes she is alive!!!! Not in a finished state, but it should still be running by Folsom. Here's a quicky vid tooling around in 4 wheel drive. The rear axles is working, but all electronics are hanging in, so there is a bit of glitching. http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...arch&plindex=0 -Sam |

I've been watching this build for a while now and just wanted to say Great job! What wheelbase does it have? I'm building a similar buggy sitting at around 11.5" wb and wanted to compare to yours. Keep up the great work! Hope that rear axle holds up! |

| RCMFMaxxMan - Dude, I can't wait to see your axle. Sounded like a great project. AIPOHAKU - You may get to see this thing first hand. We might be doing a wedding out there next year. If not, we want to make a trip to the islands and my wife is making me take my crawler with me . cman_1500w - Thanks for the compliments. The wheelbase is just a tad shorter than my comp Jeep was and it was 12". Actually, I didn't even think to measure the wheelbase as I was making it so I guess I am lucky to fit the rules. I look forward to seeing pics from your project as well. Post up a link if you have a build thread. Rockmuncher & aggressivellc - I hope the axle holds up also. I played with it a tiny bit, but am saving it for the rocks. For the front I had originally planned to use a Bruiser front end, then cutting off the knuckles and using these massive U-joints I found. It would give it the ground clearance it needed plus the beefy steering that could turn as sharp as CVDs. I also wanted to go this route so that I would have a higher wheel speed up front so that it had a higher tendency to pull the front end since it has a higher gear ratio than the TLT. Ultimate I want to machine my own housings that are much smaller than the TLT. I found a ring and pinion that are .75" in diameter in steel. That would bump my clearance up pretty good. Here is an update. I am about to head to bed before driving out to the Folsom comp. It's a trail ride tomorrow and the comp on Sunday. Here are my rigs ready to go. You can see the difference between my 2006 comp rig and TINY. -Sam |
