Well I got to touch the rig tonight. While the wife was away, I got to play (a little). So here are a couple additions to TINY. I did some machining on one of the mating pieces for the rear offset axle. The upright in the photo will grab one of the links and you can see the axle tube pressed in place. It is a 1/4" diameter axle tube for visual reference. This photo shows only one of the machined pieces in place. This poor diff donor was my original housing I had on my tuber years ago before it broke the ears off. I then was painted and bolted up to my Landrover's trailer with some Fat-Rock Cs on it. Now it will serve powered life again as my custom diff housing.  My next "cross my fingers and hope it works" is this new AAA battery pack. It's a 9cell 700 mah high drain pack from Cheap Battery Packs. I wanted the punch of more than what 7 cells could offer, so I bumped it up to a 9'er. Hopefully it can handle all the output it will see. Mostly I like it for the fact that I can lay it flat on the bottom of my chassis right in between the chassis rails and next to the driver seat. The driveshaft will route over the top of it. I am thinking I can swap it in and out from the passenger side. First pic is of course the battery pack.  This horrible photo is of the battery within the rails.  Slowly slooooooooooooowly TINY will rise. The October Folsom event is getting too close for comfort now at this rate.   -Sam |

That battery pack looks neat! How you are going to do rear linkage, do you have pic of the other end of TINY's rear axle?

I don't have an image of the other side of the axle, but just picture a circular colar going around the tube to support the wheel up against it as it rolls. Thanks guys for the comments. Smokin - I won't be at folsom unfortunately. I have a wedding to do. Gotta pay the bills. However, I should be at the October Folsom event and "should" have Tiny running for a little.......... SHAKE........... and BAKE!!. The tranny will actually sit partially under the bug motor and above the battery pack. Mostly there will only be clearance below the driveshaft which is where I am planning for the pack to be. We will see. I am designing things like an old western. Shoot from the hip style.-Sam |

It has the low end grunt to torque through a load (as far as carpet testing goes) and it has a huge punch to it. Now being that it is only 700mah, it most likely won't last very long. Sam, if you are still planning on running the rr2 motor I think you will be glad you went to 9cells. If you remember when I ran mine before that was on 8cells. Rig looks great. Can't wait to see it in person. |

Yeah,,,, 9 woulda been better. I think my rig was about 5lbs. 2oz. at the time. I will say that the cogging was not as bad as some brushless i've seen since then though.

Thought it was time for a little update. VERY little if we are being truly honest here. So here is what I have done since last time: - Rough machined up second axle bracket (1 to go) - Threaded the rear axle shaft - Test mounted links several times for preferred geometry (somewhat happy) - Decided to rotate battery and bias it towards the front of the belly - Mounted the tranny That's it. See I told you not much was done. However, progress is progress even if a little at a time. I took some setup shots just so you can see how things will roughly fit into place. I need to clean up the edges and finish of the rear axle, welds, and more. I also need to clearance one link to clear the diff housing. I wasn't planning on running it so close, but to get the link separation I needed, I will need to bend it a tad. One thing I did notice when making vroom vroom sounds with it, I noticed that when I give the rear diff backward rotation as it would see during driving, the passenger side of the rig would torque down. This may be a bonus in countering standard torque twist as seen on standard 4 link rigs> Here are the pics: Here is TINY at what I might make it's normal ride height of ~ 2"s. The suspension can drop down to about 3.75"s.  There is 2.2" of clearance under the rear axle tube which is higher than the belly of the rig.
