i built this with 3/16 solid rod from home depot for $2 for 3 feet.
I brazed it with 1600 degree brazing rods and an oxygen/mapp gas torch.

Thumbs up

Wow,

stack'o'rocks, That looks awesome.

I just found a metal supply shop here and went and bought 50ft of 3/16th solid rod. I alos got 3/16th brake tubing from Pep Boys along with a really nice tubing bender that will do tite bends. Now I need to make some time to get started. I also have a oxy/mapp setup and am planing to use brazing rod.

make sure you pay attention when brazing solid rod to tubing, you will need to concentrate your heat on the solid to get a good braze and not burn the tubing. practice alot. it is a very tricky thing to do.

Thanks for the heads up. I would think that would be the case sinse the tubing is much thinner material to heat.

What do you suggest for holding the tubing or rod in position while brazing?

people do this many different ways....

The way I do it simply to use painters tape on the other end holding it where I want it, braze one side- remove the tape and braze the other. I have seen people use clamps, clay, and those picture holders that have the alligator clips on them. Tape works best for me.
