Hello Everyone,

I am a new member here at RC CRAWLER. I have been reading lots of your posts on the TLT-1's and got inspired to make 1.

I still need to run it and dial in the suspension but this is what I got so far.

I bought a stripped down TLT-1 from a friend of mine., and then I went crazy with it.

Tamiya Carbon chassis
Stampede tranny
modified pede sliders
REVO links
Titan motor
Savage shocks /red springs/ 20 weight oil.
Locked axles via JB WELD.

I have a NOVAK XRS ESC to try. I have a modded Traxxas radio for the 4WS.

what do you guys think??

I can flip the axles about 175 degrees around but I know that is lame and might put limiters inside the shocks so they won't let that happen.

I'll probably go with an 8cell battery with 4 mounted to each servo.

fully open to any and all critisisim. I am new at crawling.

I figured it would be best to design a setup that had Maximum mechanical movement (no limits) then it would be easier to take some of it away rather than figure out how to add more.

let me know what you think of my TLTwist-1

looks good, but i would suggest you lower it, and limit artic to about 80 degrees ish. i think thats about what everyone will say.

lower it a ton!!!!! wow. get shorter shocks. 90 degrees of arc is too much.

wow. never seen a TLT with Savage shocks before.

id take the fiber chassis plates off and make some aluminum shock mounts.

then i would lower it a bit then bend up some high clearence lower links.

i didn't see were you were going to mount the batt. but i would strap it to the front upper links.

It really depends on what you want to do with your TLT, but if you take a look around this forum you can learn alot from pictures alone.

thanks for the feedback I figured you guys would tell me to lower it.

BUT If I put weight in the tires and mount the batteries down low like on top of the servos

and reduce the shock travel via internal limiters could I keep it this high??

can I keep the shocks??

I honestly do not know exactly how I will use this.

I am a modding maniac and nothing I do is practical. all my other cars and helicopters are crazy fast brushless beasts.

this is my first venture into slow riding.. so I appreciate all your feedback.

I have looked at a lot of rides on here and I know they are a lot lower.

The articulation on this is crazy . I think if I limit axle rotation to 80 degrees and have CG down LOW. I should be able to use the SAVAGE shocks and the ride height. it's 3.7 inches from the ground to the chassis.

as for the carbon chassis. you guys think I should ditch it because it will just come apart anyway? I agree.

I would ditch the titan motor and get a lathe and change out the pinion/spur for a hpi 96Tspur and 12T pinion. If you run BB's in the tires you'll have to cut the diameter down on the foams to make room the them to roll around inside.

currently I have no foam in the tires.

so titan motor sucks..... cool I can swap in a lathe motor and use the gearing you sugested. great feedback all in the same day as joining.. this place ROCKS (no pun intended)

I think you might have some trouble with the savage shocks, I tried the savage shocks and they were too big. My pede sliders alwas fell out.

Thats what I would say ;-) :mrgreen:

his pede sliders wont fall out it looks like he lengthened them.
but you should defanatly lower it, try mounting the shocks up higer on the chassis.
i hear that savage shocks have about the same amount of travel in them as 4'' shocks, so i would think if you put limiters in them to get it to the right hight ,then they wont have much travel left in them.

I do have a set of MAXX shocks but I can try them but I am still gonna try to dial in the Savage shocks.. for $100 a set I am gonna try to make them work, but I will follow function in the end.

I deffinatley want it to be a good crawler so I will work on lowering it.

My Pede sliders are modified to be longer so they don't come close to falling out under any suspension deflection.

like I said I gave the truck MAX operating envelope and now it should be pretty easy to reduce the envelope down to a good crawling state.

The problem with this building technique is you can only do so much with savage shocks because they are so long. You can get the same articulation with maxx shocks on your TLT if done correctly.

I hear you when it comes to wanting to make them work.

As far as getting a Lathe, thats definitely a good idea but wait on the gearing. You might actually want to gear up? I know mine takes off way smoother with a 16 compared to a 12 pinion gear, I think it has to do with "Load".
