EP's J2-TT - part 2 I haven't updated the original thread in a long time. It's more or less a rolling test bed for me, as I've tried it all. Or, at least the pile of parts I have leftover tells me I've tried it all. This is a great truck, and has helped me to victory and a few top finishes in the Tri-State Crawlers club. After snapping some pictures of my new Axial Scorpion, I wanted to get this thing on film also. Here it is: Losi pink springs up front. Hi Lift springs inside. http://img248.imageshack.us/img248/7017/img8205ql8.jpg Losi blue on the twist side, and orange on the other. Again, Hi Lift springs inside. http://img253.imageshack.us/img253/7920/img8212fw9.jpg An Airtronics 361 servo, Spektrum reciever, and Thunder Power 1320 mah 2 cell battery. Also, MIP CVDs from RCP. Gotta have those. http://img521.imageshack.us/img521/6348/img8206mh2.jpg RC4WD's R2 with disconnect transmission, with a Spektrum Z590 servo. http://img107.imageshack.us/img107/9428/img8208pt4.jpg A 45 turn Integy motor, with those purple stiffer Trinity springs. http://img265.imageshack.us/img265/8140/img8214dr3.jpg Novak's Rooster Crawler ESC. Even though the BEC is strong, I use an MPI regulator also because I bought it a while ago to help a Mamba 25 ESC and it's weak BEC. Don't need more parts sitting around... might as well use it I guess. http://img125.imageshack.us/img125/8747/img8216es8.jpg Here you can see a couple of spacers underneath the rear upper link mount. http://img107.imageshack.us/img107/2732/img8209pl8.jpg High clearance links are a must have. http://img441.imageshack.us/img441/5623/img8210kk6.jpg The flex shot. Original Erickson beadlocks, and old worn Moabs, now filled with Kreepy Skwishy inserts. Narrow Ruby Reds up front, and narrow Pinks in the back. http://img509.imageshack.us/img509/725/img8218if9.jpg And finally, the Parma Toyota Tundra body. Love this thing. http://img408.imageshack.us/img408/7807/img8219ab3.jpg That's it. 8) |
sweet rig! Looks badass, nice and low slung8) |
The tundra body is the best"thumbsup" Looks like a good setup |

I'm in, thanks for the chance! |

Looks F'ING SWEET! |
Well done EP... I like the servo mount for your dig servo is that EP fabricated or manufactured? |
Thanks guys. Pinchflat at www.ReignRC.com put together a great package, all I did was tweak the living crap out of it. For the disconnect servo mount I used some TLT steering servo blocks, and the most rusty, and worn out hardware I could find. http://img57.imageshack.us/img57/8956/img8223eq7.jpg I was thinking the servo might pivot around on the chassis crossbrace, but not yet. Also, I tried a HiTec micro servo, but it got hotter than heck after a few disconnects and reconnects. 8) |
nice spacers on the upper shock mounts... hillbilly. overall I give it a F+, hey at least you tried. really.... looks good, I like how all the wiring is somewhat in order. do you like running those side body posts. I ran them on my old XRC and they hung on everything it seemed. |
Hey EP, looks great man, good to see some side body post bretheren... Can't wait to embarass that thing on Saturday :) |
Are you using the 3-channel Spectrum radio with this rig? I was wondering how the 3rd channel would work with the R2 tranny. Thanks. EDIT: Nevermind...I answered my own question... |

Saturday night at ARRRRRRRRGHbuckle park on the far side of Indy. Thinking we're going to leave HT around 4 or 5 and head out. |
F+ my butt! Come try me at a comp for once you non shower upper! I spent a lot of time getting all those stupid wires laid out nicely. Side body posts can work to your advantage, you just gotta learn how to use them suckers. Saturday = death to all. |
Looks great EP. Good luck on saturday Shane |
Cory what pinion are you running with 45t? Or did you switch out to bm9 ? |
Right now the 8 tooth pinion supplied with the tranny is on a 45 turn Integy. It's too slow for practical reasons, but the super slow tire speed is pretty sweet. It needs a litte more speed for those running starts. ;-) 8) |
That is a very nice RIG !!! Im sold on the J2-TT !!! I will order one soon ! The COG is killer and the breakover angle seems to be PERFECT !! Do you have any VID by chance ?? Im a couple clicks away from locking in the order !! thanks for your help and NICE RIG !! hesh |

 Wow so spacial I link so much |
Well, I'm still working on this thing. I can't help myself. I have an Axial Scorpion. The thing has about a foot of clearance underneath the skidplate. And sometimes, well, it works better than the J2. I'm not cool with that, so I did a few tweaks. Reign Products was nice enough to send me their STL upper link mounting plates. These are sweet. For years I had been using their old ones from the original Jefferson kit. Those were thin, and had been bent a few times. These I do not see bending ever, and look great. Thanks Matt! http://img222.imageshack.us/img222/8819/img8233ty2.jpg http://img68.imageshack.us/img68/9897/img8345qn2.jpg 8) So I needed to get more clearance underneath the skid plate. There's the easy way of adding preload to the shocks, but then they don't sit mid travel in their 50/50 sag set up. I needed a suspension lift. I had a moment of clarity again. http://img513.imageshack.us/img513/3993/img8354hs7.jpg http://img234.imageshack.us/img234/6259/img8352sx2.jpg Not the greatest way of controlling an axle, but we'll see how it works. 8) |
Those plates are Beefy. Truck looks good. |
looking good. those plates are beef! nice! |
EeePee whats the belly height on your rig? |
Thanks Tom, thanks CJ. Hope to beat ya, I mean see ya guys at Billy's Boat Ramp soon. The ground clearance at the highest point is real close to 3 1/4" at rest. http://img233.imageshack.us/img233/2220/img8375gb6.jpg When at full extension there's 3 3/4" underneath. Don't mind the poor angle... This is how it would sit without the Hi Lift springs inside the shocks. Maybe a little higher actually. http://img102.imageshack.us/img102/7728/img8376gw2.jpg And at full compression there's 2 1/2" at the lowest point, but still 2 7/8" under the rear links. http://img220.imageshack.us/img220/9658/img8378zv6.jpg "thumbsup" I took second place in the last comp. The new found clearance was definately helping the truck get up the real steep ledges that the Clod Stick/Torsion guys tend to cruise right up. 8) |
Thanks EeePee. Curiousity was killing me. I have a jt-22 but use short shocks on it instead of the maxx sized one's. |
are those original txt shocks i see? |

Good eye! |
3 1/4 at rest.......hmmm......you've almost got as much as me, but not quite, 3 5/8 at rest. I like the extra belly clearance as well."thumbsup" Is your AX10 box stock, or modified? I would hope modified, if it is hanging with the J2TT. |
Quote:
The AX10 is close to box stock. I've bent the rear links, and then flipped them around. One of the ball ends is like, raised up for clearance and the kit's instructions have it placed at the axle end. I have it at the chassis end. A picture? Sure. http://img220.imageshack.us/img220/854/img8384js0.jpg The AX10 can make it up steps and ledges none of all my other 2.2 trucks can do. But the J2 drives better. |
Cory did you mount the r2 to the skid ? |

Trying to figure out mounting my r2disco . |
You touched this thing recently at all EeePee? Or does it now just sit collecting dust? Shane |
