I run 90/10 with a 55t lathe. Works for me. Good luck finding 10t 48p pinions though.

what's the advantage using a smaller or larger pinion/spur gears?

i'm builidng a 2.2 crawler with a 90t/12t setup. i plan on running a 45t motor. with 9t pinion on my clod, it was a little slow for my taste.

This is kind of a newbie question, but what pitch is best for these spurs and pinions?

Some like 64 pitch. The gears are quiter and there is more gear contact. I've been using 48 pitch only because I have a crap load of them.

It's probably more a matter of personal taste and availability of gear choices.
