Default Project Rock Surfn - another tuber - Updated

Well it's time to start another project. My 2.2 comp rig is torn apart at the moment. I'll be using the chassis for my TXT building up. So I had my tuber chassis that I got from Wrecker (thanks again!) and it was time to start building it up.

So far, I have the tuber setup as a roller. I haven't decided on what trans to use, my R2 or my pede. But I know I will run brush less in this setup. And yes, I know it sits high but there's no electronics and still tweaking the shocks. In this setup, its setup 30% droop/70% sprung with 80wt oil.

Here some quick specs: WB: +/112", W: -10", H: 7" (w/o electronics). And the chassis is within comp specs - L: 8.5", W: 4.5", H: 4".

Here are some pics:

Things to do:
1) mount trans, motor, and electronics
2) tweak the links and shocks
3) narrow the pede wheels or run Axial beadlocks
4) find a battery setup
5) find some ROCKS for it's maiden voyage!!!

SWEET!
I've been waiting to see this thig get built up! I'm glad you like it. I would bump the wb out to 12.5" though. It will drop the chassis down quite a bit and perform much better with the lower cog and climb alot better. Looks like a great start though.

If you do want to keep the wb on the short side though, using some shorter shocks or going to a full droop setup would help get the stance and geometry were it should be.

thanks guys.

those brackets came with my J2-TT chassis. You can buy them from TCS (Reign's servo plates) or RCP Crawlers (RCP plates or RCP plates w/ link mounts), or you can make your own from angle iron.

thanks wrecker. awesome chassis. i got the shorter WB because i was lazy about cutting my own links last night (lowes has some 3" 8/32 all-thread). but i think i'm going to full droop on this one. if she doesn't climb well, then i'll push the rear out another 1/2".

Default Nice buggie!

I love it...especially the rims & tires. It was the very first set-up I put on my very first crawler.

I got the electronics mounted. I went with my Hacker BL motor, Mamba esc, and Hitec 645 servo. I also changed to a full droop setup and narrowed the pede wheels slightly. I finished this all Saturday night. :-P

I met up with Baldchris for her maidan voyage. She ran well with the 9.6v 2/3a battery setup and the 7.2v sub-c setup. I think I'm going with the 2/3a setup. With the droop setup, she side hilled and climbed well. I definitely like the LCOG. I need to recut the foam, damn glue.

In the end, I broke the driver rear shock mount and lost my pinion gear. The pinion gear is an easy fix. I need to tweak the motor mount some since it worked itself loose. The shock mount... hmmm... i suck at brazing and the chassis was cleanly done. (Maybe time to start the TXT build...)

The only pics I have are the aftermath...

I cut it with a 4.5" angle grinder with a cut-off wheel, super fast and it's really easy to get a perfectly straight line compared with using a dremel. To bend it I just clamped it to the edge of my work bench (with a sharp edge, 1/2" mdf board) and then bent it by hand. It works really good and you can get a perfect bend if you take your time.

This new setup should work alot better with your setup. Be sure to post pics of it built back up, and some video too.
