| TXt wheels and BFT tires, UPDATED! WITH PICS, even more pics
Ok, So I've been thinking about a different way to mount this combo. My plan is to use stock wheels and narrow them as usual. Instead of cutting the fins down as to mount the stock TXT tires leave them alone. The BFt tires with sit on those fins. The fins are slightly larger than the Maxx rim diameter. the actually stretch the BFT beads a tad. Then I plan on taking some ABS plastic and cutting two discs 3 1/8" in diameter per wheel for the bead of the tire to rest upon. I can make these to look like real beadlocks. Which is just and bonus. So I'll take some pics and to a step by step hopefully with pics when the rims come in. What do you guys think? I'd like some input. |

That's what I would have done if I hadn't already cut the fins when I was running the stock TXT tires.

Well I got some more stock rims. I didn't want to do the maxx wheel thing because of the offset. This way I can keep almost the same width. I gained 1/4" of clearance just from the tires. I just need to make beadlock rings now.

Ok well I know it's been a while but other projects have taken priority. So I made the all outer beads. Looks sweet. I used some .090 black ABS plastic. Started with a 1 5/8" hole saw and then used a band saw to cut the 3 1/8" outer diameter then sanded to near round. Next was to mount the tire on the wheel and place the new (trailready lookin') outer ring in and glue. I'll try and get a pic tomorrow. It looks sweet with the chrome rim and black faux beadlock.

How well do the tyres grip to the rims? Did you need to glue them to the new bead? Looks good and I dig the recovery shackle on the front. What's it's scaled rating? about 60 000 tonne 8O |

I had to glue the tires. I just used them at my favorite local crawling spot and they hook up great. They'll be even better once I cut some tread in them. here's some pics: I'm stoked now that I can post pics. Enjoy |

Thanks John I'll keep that in mind. So, I started cutting the tread pattern. Not sure if I should cut them a lot or a little. I cut my TXT tires a lot. Took forever. So I've cut a 1/2" off of ever other lug and glued them to the sidewall. Question: Has anyone successfully narrowed a TXT wheel more than the standard? |
