Jugg transmission change

I have a Jugg conversion going on and am considering changing out the transmission and possibly going to a single motor. Using a New Era Tube frame (vintage 1998) it is getting a bit heavy... this will be scale, not competition.

I have looked into the RC4WD R2 transmission [ http://rc4wdstore.com/product_info.p...roducts_id=515 ] and a 55T motor. Its a $100 experiment... anyone have any insight before I start experimenting?

Thanks in advance.

Maybe a Wheely King transmission might be an option. I don't know if anyone's done it but it is about the same height as a Jugg tranny, has 6mm outputs, and will look more like monter truck transfer case than the R2. The only concerns would be how to mount it and the strength of the Wheely King tranny gears.

I appreciate the suggestions... I looked into the Wheely King a bit but was wondering the same thing about mounting. I also forgot that the shafts were 1mm off from the RC4WD products, so I'll have to factor in the cost of adaptors.

I'll also look into the HD case... missed that initially. ;-)

I'd just stick with the Jugg trans and bring it up to TXT specs, bigger outputs and heat sinks.

Do you have any reference links (here or elsewhere), my search came up empty... on how to upgrade it to TXT? Any help is appreciated, otherwise I'll just sift around a bit and see what I can see. :)

Additionally, is it viable to run a single motor and seal over the second mount? I have a 55T on the way for testing purposes...

R2HD from RC4WD, stock 8t
GD600 with the lowest gearing money can buy
Novak Goat Crawl combo

Moab XLs

Great crawl ratio if you ask me, I love the over all crawl/wheel speed balance

it only takes 4 bags of parts to make it a mammoth tranny, 1 motor that is centered on the trans and alot of torque. with a 35t motor my mammoth would be a decent crawler.......... if i lost the leafs and big ol' dump bed:lol:

Jugg trans with the TXT upgrade from RC4WD and twin 55t with stock gearing has served me well for many years (bought the Jugg when it was released). I've been eyeing the XXXT tranny I have sitting in the parts box for a smaller replacement, but the Jugg tranny just keeps going and going.
