Optional Diff lock ???

I built my TXT stock to test run it and it is obviously in need of a locked diff for any type of crawling as previous threads have mentioned. The problem is that I also want to use it as a basher since I have the Novak Brushless and it has decent top end. I also want to use it to tow a trailer with my CR-01 crawler that I am building. If I lock the diff full time it has horrible steering and maneuverability. So.... Has anyone tried drilling and pinning the short drive shaft and the conical part of the Diff gear like it is done in the CR-01. If you drill a small access hole in the diff case you can then remove the pin externally when needed without taking the whole thing apart. It seems to work great on the CR-01 but that is much smaller, less stress...etc. Anyone tried this or something like it?

That would be a great idea but I have not seen it done on the TXT axle before. You should give it a shot and see if you can come up with something that would work.

Which diff did you lock - rear, front, both? On my last TXT I locked the rear and made the front posi. That moved around pretty good.

For now I splurged and got the spools from RC4wd for front and back. I will play with it a while and decide if I want to remove the front or try making it "optional" as I mentioned in the first post.

I had thought about this idea before though I didn't execute it.

You can tap a 3mm? hole on the diff and use a pin screw to lock it down just like the diff unit in CR-01 or highlift. On the axle housing, drill a larger hole so that you can use a hex key to unlock it when needed. Cover the hole with another screw.

Sounds easy with the right tools. Let me know if it works. ;)
