Thanks for the compliments. Well I ran it with my fully charged GP3000 pack and the hump pack. The larger servos don't appear to be adversely effecting the run time and the hump pack receiver batt is still going strong after one 7.2V pack. With the lathe motor I'd still get at least an hour of run time. With the stock motor, I get about 40 mins of strong power, but I love the wheel speed with the stock motor. It's great for bumping over obsticales. I'll leave the stock motor in as it still has plenty of power to climb.

Love that wheel speed with the stock can but I swapped the lathe back in, I'm gonna play with pinions to see if I can get a bit more wheel speed wit the lathe.

arent you afraid those long shocks could be its weak point? i mean wouldnt it function the same if you had used 4 inch shocks instead ... those things look like they could get caught in the rocks or something.

This is the 5th time I've rebuilt the thing, I had Integy maxx shocks. The Savage shocks are so much smoother and it was modeled after a proven TXT with Savage shocks.

Default Actual run times

Got my first real chance to run the rig in the new configuration. I put the lathe back in as I wanted to see how the giant scale servos effected my run times as it was. So electrically with this test the only thing that was different than before the rebuild is the giant scale servos and a hump back receiver pack.

Results: The giant servos have not reduced the run time at all. My run times with the lathe (18t), the GD-600 (15T pinion in tranny), giant scale servos, standard GP3300 stick pack and a generic 5 cell receiver pack = OVER an Hour of effective run time.

With the stock motor my (effective = able to still climb obsticales) run time in the same configuration was 40 mins. But the wheel speed was AWESOME.

So, my next step is to try and marry the two. I am going to try a 20t or 22t pinion on the late to see if I can get a little more wheel speed and still have longer run times. I'll let ya know

Tried different pinions on the lathe and didn't like it. So I kept the 18t on the motor and the 15th on the GD600. But I did put the stock motor back in, I'll have reduced run time but huge wheel speed.

sounds good. what are you doing with the lathe now? im looking for one perhaps. my multiplex permax 600 motor is just a little overkill in a tlt. i stripped out the ring/pinion gears.

After a hard day of testing, the new configuration is great, however, I did in the end go back to my origianl drive train configuration of lathe with 18t pinion and 15t on GD600 which gives it an 85:1 ratio, with the the lathe it's close to 100:1 or there about.

I've received a couple of PMs asking for more pictures and about the links I am using. The links are highlighted below in my pictures. The wheel base is right at 17" (16 7/. The links consist of the following: Top links are stock TXT bottom links with 26mm rod ends. Bottom Links are comprised of stock txt bottom links lock nuts on each end and 26 mm rod ends. The rods ends are from inetrc, not sure who actually makes them.

tis the season for the little bitty newblets to start appearing.

hey cheapjeep, i noticed that in one of those last few pics there is one of the wheel turned sideways and you have a strip of what looks like metal around the outside. are they stickon lead weights? how much have you added to each wheel? where did you get them?

peace

Yep tape weights. I have about 5 oz on each wheel.

just wondering did you have to shave the hump infront of the diff, so the back of the servo is flush with the flat part of the diff case?
