Tube work with pics-finished more pics updated 10/6/04 Here I'm just malking up the tube. What do you guys think? http://www.imagestation.com/picture/...7/f7391372.jpg http://www.imagestation.com/picture/...c/f739138a.jpg I'm going to mig all the tubing together. I used 1/4" x 1/16" DOM tubing. Really strong stuff. I tried to bend it cold with my brakeline bender and it almost broke it. I had to torch it to bend it. I'll end up using this material for a full tube chassis. |
Re: Tube work with pics looks nice and very strong |
Re: Tube work with pics Looks nice. Are you going to sandwich the bed between a plate and the tubes for strength? |
Re: Tube work with pics That looks good so far. Thats going to be SWEET to have a tuber! Lucky bastage! :flipoff: |
Re: Tube work with pics Jason, Yes. I'm thinking I'd like to tie it to the frame. I may even cut off the bed and flat bed the whole thing. But that will be later. Thanks, wait till it's done. It's gonna take a bit of grinding to smooth out the mig weld. Unless I can get the right setup or maybe I'll tack it together and have someone here at work TIG! it. That would be sweet. I'll probably finish it today. |
Re: Tube work with pics http://www.imagestation.com/picture/...d/f73691d0.jpg http://www.imagestation.com/picture/...4/f73691e4.jpg Well I've got it all welded, now it's dremel time. what do you guys think? I think I could stand on it with a little more bracing. Then it's mount time. |
Re: Tube work with pics That looks sick Dave! How much do you think it weighs? And do you think it adds to much weight up high? |
Re: Tube work with pics looks sick 8) |
Re: Tube work with pics it doesn't weigh much. The block of Jack cheese I'm comparing it to is 3/4 of a lb. and it's no where close so maybe 4-5oz. Thanks guys, I really enjoy fabin' stuff outta tubing. |
Re: Tube work with pics Thats funny... a block of jack cheese in one hand and a rc roll bar in the other. Does your wife/girlfirend think you are crazy yet? Dude I love the look of that. We might have to do some bartering to pimp my ride out also. 8) |
Re: Tube work with pics we can do that I've more tubing. No but she called me a nerd. I explained to her that I'm a dork, a nerd plays with little handpainted monsters and make up wars like D&D. Nerds! A front bumper is next. |
Re: Tube work with pics Looks awesome rckjeep! 8O Very nice tube werk. Did you get the tube at onlinemetals? |
Re: Tube work with pics yup, you saw my other post huh? that place is awesome. |
Re: Tube work with pics Yup, my friend Ace shops there alot but I have yet to buy anything. However, after seeing how well your rollcage is turning out I will be ordering some tube. Again, looks aawesome. |
Re: Tube work with pics Nice touch...... Jay |
Re: Tube work with pics thanks guy's, I've ended up mig welding it together. Which I'll do in the future but never all the way around again. It takes for ever to grind down. I've filed it, grinded with a right angle die grinder with a sanding wheel, dremeled with a grinding stone, reamer, and a sanding drum. Man! it's a pain. Next time it's tack the tube top and bottom and leave the corner joints alone. Anyway just some tips for anyone working with small tube. I haven't brazed in 15 years and I never did that much back then. Here's a pic of my inspiration http://www.crawltech.com/albums/albu...0749.sized.jpg it's my buddies recent build. He had the exo done by a fellow club member. Pretty sweet huh? |
Re: Tube work with pics thats sick are you going to do a full exo or stop there? :D |
Re: Tube work with pics poor Yota :( it has turned into a giant jungle gym  think he could have used anymore tubing :flipoff: |
Re: Tube work with pics it looks funny, kinda indestructible!! |
Re: Tube work with pics I have never liked exo's, but I will say that whoever built it is one hell of a craftsman. Nice werk. |
