It's slow as heck. I don't know if you wheel 1:1 but you really don't want to spin tires. It's traction you seek.

NOW BEFORE ALL YOU SPEED DEMONS START YELLING. I TOO WOULD LIKE A BIT MORE WHEEL SPEED BUT IN MY EXPERIENCE SLOWLY MOVING FORWARD IS BETTER THAN JUMPING ROCKS. IT ALSO DEPENDS ON YOUR STILL OF DRIVING. AND THERE ARE EXEPTIONS TO EVER RULE.

Just a little CMA (cover my ass)

you know, i was just thinking...the TXT-1 hosts dual motors....you could have one low geared mabuchi motor and one moderatly geared mod motor such as an Epic 19 spec or something.

wire both motors to a switch, then using a 3 channel radio, hook the switch up to the 3rd channel so it cna be remotely switched...that way you can switch out between which ever motor u want....like one to get across the road to a good crawling spot...then switch to the low geared motor for the actual crawling, only problem i see with that would be one motor would have to deal with the extra resistance of the other motor.

auto 2 speed is pretty simple...and lighter with out the extra servo

I'd second that 1 hour runtime because I too have achieved 45mins from an old Tamiya 1400 NiCD on my thunderfoot. It runs a 550 cordless drill motor and 3:1 reduction drive unit (similar to GD-600) giving 65:1 overall reduction. The 550 motors have stacks of torque, low rpm and pull little amps and they are very cheap!. I also use a novak rooster as my ESC and it barely gets warm after 45mins non stop crawling!! I'd put the inline gear reduction high on my list of hop-ups.
