Nice work, very clean build!!

It would be cool to see the narrowed chassis, it'll lessen the triangulation in your upper links and increase the triangulation in the lowers too.

Hey Badger...I looked at the narrowed mockup last night and there is no room for a small pack in there after all. Do you have any pictures of your setup with the pede tranny and battery mounted next to it? I remember seeing pictures of your battery at the base of the chassis, but still with the TXT tranny.

Now I can't decide what to do. I like the narrow chassis idea for the improved geometry of the links and simplified shock mounting, but that means I won't get to mount the battery on the skid plate.

Maybe I missed it but what shafts and yokes are you running?

Also, I run my TXT and TLT on 8 cells and love it. The TLT has custom built hump packs and the TXT I am running these packs set through the front of the chassis.

You can see in my thread on page two (Chop, cut, rebuild round 5 The New Cheapjeep where my battery is, that is a 6 cell but I put the 8 cell in the same place, it sticks out to the edge of the body posts and I had to make cut outs in the body for it, but it crawls really well with the weight of the battery right there.

I'll see if I can get some pictures of the setup.

Rckjeep runs his battery in his txt in the same location as cheapjeep2 and I was amazed at how well it crawled with that battery location.

eric113, I have not ran that battery in the TXT yet, but when I put it in my TLT I was getting 2+ hours run time. That is mostly because I charged it at such a low rate, around .50 amps.

Maxx 2.5 stuff, with the exception of the yokes that mount to the 'pede tranny...I believe those are the old maxx yokes that I shaved down to fit the tranny outputs.

Okay, I promised that I would show you guys how this turned out. Instead of a few months, it turned out to be more like 11 months. I ultimately ended up with a 15 inch wheelbase, 3.5 inch belly clearance, 60/40 link setup, narrowed chassis, laydown stampede tranny, narrowed Giant Tracs, remounted steering servos, shocks mounted to the axles, and a CJ-8 body to top it off. Here are a few pics of the build for your pleasure...

My hand-fabricated servo/upper link mount plate. The actual servo mount posts are from InetRC:

Here they are mounted up on the axle. Note the absence of the stock upper link mounts, as well as the TLT brackets for the lower suspension links and shocks:

The chassis is now narrowed to 3 inches between the sides. A perfect fit for a laydown stampede tranny:

Here are a few views of the chassis and axles:

Now with the narrowed Giant Tracs:

Steering links to be replaced with new ones of the appropriate length:

Traxxas Big Bore shocks (incredibly smooth) and 2.5 Maxx shafts:

Finally, test fitting the CJ-8 body:

A view of the sweet custom 8 cell GP 4/5A 2000 mAh pack from Chris at CheapBatteryPacks.com and the new steering links:

Super Rooster and a 65T Integy Lathe motor:

The rear end:

With the CJ-8 body (yes, the body posts will be trimmed):

Oh yeah!

Left to do:
- Sleeve the suspension links
- Trim the body posts
- Trim off other unnecessary parts of the chassis
- Drive it!

Thanks for looking,
Jeff

WOW! That is hands down, the sweetest TXT i have seen! The quality of your work is excellent. I especially like the use of allen head screws everywhere. I cant stand mis-matched hardware. Also, I would buy a set of thsoe servo/link mounts in a heartbeat, for real

Thanks for looking and for all the nice comments...I really appreciate it!

The servo mounts are hand made with a hacksaw, drillpress, and file. If I were to make them for profit I would have no time left for hobbying for myself and I would have to charge a rediculous amount of money. Sorry.

sweet truck mate! thats some skills with a hacksaw n a bunch of basic tools, looks machined. How do you find the giant tracs over the stock tyres? Im looking for a better tyre to fit the stock wheels.

I must have missed the part where you said they were hand made cause man they look nice like they were machined. Looks like I'm gonna have to bust out the hand tools then.

Those of you that have never meet Jeff... he is very patient and does take forever to build a project rig. He pays attention to details and it shows. All of us here in Oregon get jelous when he shows up with a freshly built truck, sure we only see him about once every 6 months but it's always worth the wait

Looks killer Jeff.
