Default txt-1 tube crawler phase-1

I am starting a tube crawler txt-1 with a gd-600 2.5:1 gear reduction 9 tooth pinion 72 tooth spur. the crawler will be powered by a 55 turn integy lathe motor, novak super rooster, and a xr3i controller with two hitec hs-5645mg digital ultra torque servos, and probably a 3300 nimh pack.
currently i have the servo mounts done and have to finish up the links.
i turned down the gd-600 on my lathe. i have the maximizer bead locks waiting for the k-rock tires. i bought the tires without reading the tire test by dirk. but i will try them out and hope i can mod them to be a decent crawler tire. any suggestions let me hear them.

You keeping 2nd gear?
Sounds like you are going to need it.
Sometimes it's nice to have the extra rpm's.

i have had alot of rc's but this (aside from my crawler in the general crawlers section) will be my first real crawler although i have been fabricating 1:1 crawlers for 6 years now, so i understand the foundation of a good crawler. you think i will need 2nd gear for the rpm's huh
well hopefully i can be low enough to crawl really slow for control but i understand what you say. it would be real nice to be able to romp up some stuff and more importantly it will be neccessary in comps. if you know or have a good idea let me know it seems like there will be alot of slop with second?

i laid off the coffee and the tuber is starting to come together. when its done it will have a 16in. wheel base and hopefully 5in. of ground clearance i still have to make front and rear links and steering links. i also have alot to add to the cage i will be mounting my batt up front. and i will have shock hoops front and rear. still waiting on the k-rocks.

When I had my maxx crawler I locked out 2nd gear. If you leave 2nd in the tranny has way too much slop. You can roll the car foward and backward 6 inches before the syncros lock.

well i'm back with more pic's. right now the truck is sitting at 5" ground clearance at the center skid. my wheelbase is streched to 16" I welded in a battery cage and a few more frame supports. On friday i will hopefully be able to make my links and then fab up some shock mounts. and i also have to make some multi-position link mounting plates.

pic of the rear end. Has anyone ever thought of putting little winches on the front ,rear, or both? connecting the winch fairleads to the top of the axle so if you are on a steep incline you could winch in and suck the frame to the axle making it less likely for you to roll backward. and the same if you were going down a grade.
