mammoth gearbox Qs
 

I know I have seen it but I cant seem to find it - so does anyone know where I can get a complete reduction unit off a mammoth or have the parts list for all the needed parts and a place to get them from? I checked Tamiya site but didnt see a tranny or reduction anything and they only got part #s and no pics?

That is a good list of parts, however I just added the mamoth gear reductions on 2 TXT's and you do not need as many bearings as posted on his site.

It recommends buying:
1 – 850 Ball Bearing.......53030 (4pcs)
1 – 1150 Ball Bearing.....53008 (4pcs)

and I only needed two buy 2 each. So I bought:

2pcs of 850 Ball Bearing.......53030
2pcs of 1150 Ball Bearing.....53008

I am sure you can find a place to put the extra bearings but I do not have a full bearing kit on my TXT as I think it is a waste of money.

did you need two pcs for just one reduction or did you need 2 pcs for both reductions total?

You need a total of 4 bearings for 1 gear reduction.

2pcs of 850 Ball Bearing.......53030

ok thanks and one last thing does the reduction reverse anything or doI need a reverse rotation motor to run the batts up front?

The mammoth does reverse the rotation which is nice when you want to run the battery in the front and the motor in the rear of the chassis.

Just get a normal rotation motor.

You do NOT need to go with a reverse rotation motor to have your batteries up front.

Just to make it more clear.

If you want to run your battery in the front of the chassis and the motor in the back of the chassis (reverse of the stock config) and you mount a mammoth gear reduction you need to run a NORMAL rotation motor (like the stock cans) and wire the motor the way it should be wired (not reversing the two wires).

Ok wait, so if you run a mammoth and the battery in the back you need to reverse it. If you run a mammoth and battery up front no reverse? Is that right?

Wait a second guys...

If you install a Mammoth Gearbox on your TXT tranny you are going to need to do on or the other

A. If using a standard rotation motor, spin the tranny around in the chassis. The motor will now be mounted in the rear part of the frame.

OR

B. Install a reverse rotation motor and the tranny is able to stay in the stock location/direction.

The reason is due to the gearbox's design, it does not have a third/counter gear.

And also the bearings are nothing special, you can pick up them from Tower Hobbies.
850 = 5 x 8mm
1150 = 5 x 11mm

Just so we have it clear...


Normal roatation motor in the front of the chassis with a mammoth is GOOD.

Reverse rotation motor in the rear of the chassis with a mammoth is BAD... In fact according to Bush, this setup is part of the "axis of evil".

I am using the stock batt tray - so if the motor is in the front the batts are in the back - right? shouldnt the batts go up front since they weigh more?

Hmmm, I'm confused by that one. Like Kona Joe said, a mammoth box only has two gears, like the GD-600's, so shouldn't it be:

Reverse rotation motor in the front of the chassis with a mammoth is GOOD.

Normal rotation motor in the rear of the chassis with a mammoth is GOOD

??

That's the way I did it. I run my battery through the frame rails, and it's held in with some zip ties. The tranny is flipped around, motor in the back, stock rotation, and a GD-600.
