Default Chop, cut, rebuild round 5 The New Cheapjeep

Tired of getting spanked by the Clods at our local comps, it was time for a rebild. Bender's TXT performed quite well, so I decided to chop, cut, and rebuild the TXT simliar to Bender's before I cave to the dark side of the clods.

I bought a TXT called RockEater.. dismantled it, kept the best parts and sold others. Using those parts and parts from the Cheapjeep, I set out to rebuild it.

I took the wheel base from 15.75" to 16 7/8". Got rid of my standard sized servos for 1/4 scale Hobbico's, chopped the frame and added Bender's Savage shock mounts and re-worked all of the electronics moving them lower in the chassis. Now the reciever is sitting on the skid plate next to the tranny and all electronics are with in the frame rails and at the very front. I also picked up some tape weights for the front wheels if I need them. I'm just waiting on shocks and then I'll get the body trimmed. But so far, the 1/4 scale servos are the only way to go and at only $30 new......

Nice looking crawler. Where did you get the metal hubs? Have been looking for something like that and have not been able to locate any.

Got it all worked out. I really, really like the savage shocks, WAY smoother than the max shocks. The wheel base is great and the best thing I did (thanks to Bender) was to swap out my lathe for the stock motor. I still have the GD-600 and plenty of crawlin' power but now I have way more wheel speed. It's just a bit glitchy so I need to figure that out. But for those of you that doubt it.... The 1/4 scale servos turn these tires on carpet effortless, it's the only way to go.

Here are the pics.

Amen to that! 1/4 scale is the only way to go on a larger rig. The power is incredible!

I ran them long ago on my max crawler, and they killed the batteries. I didn't have even 10 minute runtimes with 3000 mah packs.

I may have had something hooked up weird, but I ditched the 1/4's for that reason.

I am running a small receiver pack as well. So far no issues, but like I said these mods are for comps so a short run time isn't that big of an issue. Just need to add my weights to the front wheels and I'll run a my better GP packs through it and measure the run time. With the standard servos and the lathe, I could easily get 45 mins or more. I will say the changes I have done have been huge, it's not even the same truck. I got the body all trimmed (hacked) so it looks quite mean.

im running a txt with a gd600 and 1 805bb upfront running right off of the receiver, currently having a stall out problem but in installing a novak regulator, i think the servo is draining the battery, but i still get @ 40 min of runtime. Im going to run a duel battery setup one for the motor and one for the servo... it should run for a long time.
