I know how to cut it but how to bend it..

So ill get my chassis cut tommorow, but i want to know how to bend the aluminum for the skid, its possible that ill get it also done, but if i would have to do it myself i would better do it good. So whats the best way for bending aluminum plate for skid ( 2 sides 90 deg, and front and rear at about 30-45 deg)
thank You  8O

If you use a hammer and you're worried about marks from the hammer, use a large dead-blow or rubber mallet.

I just clamped mine in a vise. I f you have multiple bends, i would work from the inside out.

Talk about a run on sentence!

Punctuation:

1. a. The use of standard marks and signs in writing and printing to separate words into sentences, clauses, and phrases in order to clarify meaning.
b. The marks so used.
2. The act or an instance of punctuating.

Have you learned that word in school yet? :flipoff:

Ohh and regarding bending aluminum. There is no way using a vise and a rag looks as nice as rckjeeps "brake" bends.

Re: I know how to cut it but how to bend it..

...and with bends like rckjeep made, you want to make sure none of the bends are parallel to the "grain" of the aluminum or it'll crack.

Rotate the material 45 degrees and have at it.

If you can, get some 5052 alloy. 6061 don't like to bend 90*

Just made a chassis tub out of 5052 and it bends beutifully

I can make stuff look good but knowing the right way? You kidding me right. I'm just a winger. I wing it!

Badger you crack me up. I read the above post and almost fell out of my chair. Almost.

RCK's skid is beautiful!
But keep in mind, you don't need to use heavy materials. You can use a thinner gauge aluminum and bend it quite easily. Our rc trucks are very light weight and you're not jumping so even if you use the thinnest of sheet aluminum, you will still have an effective skid plate. It may not be as purdy as RCK's and others that I've seen but it will serve it's purpose.

Hehe, you oughta see mine then. Someone mentioned how thin it was at the last get-together. Been working fine for a little over a year. I think it's .064 Cuts like butter with a regular pair of scissors (OK, frozen butter, but still).

nice pics, and ill use 3mm thick alu plate, it may be heavy i dont really care too much about weight, and it will be weight down low, so if any it will help. But thanks alot!! Ill for sure do everything as said!!
