TXT going brushless is my idea ok or stupid ?

Hi Guys,

I want to go brushless with my txt-1 and was looking at getting the mamba monster and the 2200kv motor. I was looking at getting a 6s Lipo as apparently that motor and esc can handle upto 25v.

Will that work or am I doing something wrong ?

Cheers,
Martin

It will work... for a short time...
I think that combination will tear the truck apart. TXT tranny and axles will not survive the torque the MMM produces on 6S.

Thats not a problem I have a friend who can make a lot of the parts I need.

Is that the right kind of motor ? as I don't need a crawler I kind of want one that will go over some stuff but at the same time be pretty fast.

Itll be stupid fast. and break all parts. :) sounds like fun. "thumbsup"

You aint doing anything wrong, just need to strengthen the whole powertrain.

I got a Monster + CC-Neu 1/8 BL + 6S 45C/90C hooked on the Hulk TXT Campbell Moon Buggy and went with:

RC4WD Spool
Punishers Driveshafts
TTR CVD's
JP Customs Knuckles
Custom Aluminum Housing
Full HD Gears on the E-Maxx Tranny

PLUS a lot of spare axle gears at hand because the stock tamiya pot metal gears are the weakest point and unfortunately, there ain't any HD aftermarket for these.

If your friend can fab HD idler gears, love to get hold of a couple of those."thumbsup"

If your friend can make HD bevel gears for the top case I'd get some of those.
Other than that Eggressor made a spool with a delrin bottom gear and a steel top gear that reduced the ratio from 2:1 to 4:1. But good luck finding a set of those. CVD's I still have to find myself

Sounds interesting :), I may buy 2 11.1v lipos and use them together. That way if i buy 2 i can have the choice of using one battery at a time and get 2 runs or one fast run :).

Connect them in parallel you get 11.1V at 2X the run time, as well.
If you got the space you can even go LiFe. "thumbsup"

Yeah I have my nimh 7.2v batteries wired up like that at the moment :). I'd like a lot more speed out of it if possible. so i will have to decide what I want to do.

Siggy 08-10-2010 04:19 AM

I assume you've tried 45C/90C, as well."thumbsup"

Nope just Nimh batteries atm. I was looking to get the batteries at overlander.

j0e 08-11-2010 04:41 PM

that combo should be crazy fast.
i would love the MMM with 3 or 4 cell lipo.

hawnmt 08-12-2010 02:46 AM

I personally think that is way too much power to even be drivable. I have a MMM/2650/4S combo in a much much heavier Summit and that thing will wheelie all day and still gets good top speed.

I race a TXT with MMP/4600/2S/Erevo trans and that is pretty damn fast. I went to 3S on it and it was so stupid crazy fast that I wouldn't even steer it when it got anywhere near top speed and that's in a race truck with a COG lower than any crawler.

I've never seen why anyone goes above 4S in 1/8 scale let alone in 1/10.

More speed sounds Great! But if the axles ain't prepped right, this is what might go wrong in a few seconds with a Monster + Castle-Neu + 3S 45C.

I suspect that the plastic housing slightly flexed and got gears mis-aligned.

I have my TXT-1 in mostly a stock setup with 2x Great Planes ElectriFly S-600 7.2-8.4V Ferrite Motors running 2x 7.4v lipo (Novak Super Duty XR ESC) and I have torn up a lot of stuff (bevel gears, trans gears, axles, etc.)

The weakest part will go out first, but that doesn't aways happen.

I have bigtime upgraded this truck now I've added on huge wheels different suspension and made it 2.4ghz now too :).

I haven't managed to get round to making it brushless yet but I want too soon, I've got a new Job now so go a bit more cash to spend.

txtman1 04-04-2011 10:26 AM

so what should I do to prep the truck now for when I do go brushless ?

Its taking me a while as I'd have to get the speed controller, motor and some lipos which means I will need a new charger.

i have that same problem with 2 d6 flatliners i suspect too much torque on the D shaped hole now i'm down to my last set of drive gears and they seem to be discontinued:cry:

You might need to muscle up the powertrain.

Aluminum TXT axle housing might help. Yup the drive gears are getting hard to get.

I've finally got round to do more work on my truck now :).

I bought an emaxx 3908 transmission now, I'm getting the speed controller in a few weeks and then some batteries.

I just need to figure out how to mount the motor to the emaxx tranny now lol
