Default Yellow Truck Version III (Pics - 56K Warning)

I can't leave things alone, made a few more mods on the TXT.

I built a new frame aiming for the lowest possible COG. Lowered the truck & stretched the wheelbase to 16”, moved the shocks and cantilevers out to match the lengthened chassis and it’s also running the battery pack and rooster on the center skid. I’m still messing with the suspension but it's close, almost climbs like a Clod now.

badger,
Yeah I like how you built your pack around the tranny, great idea!

I wanted to lower everything in the truck so I also clocked the tranny 90° and lowered the electronics. Replacing the stock frame with a new chassis allowed me to build a frame that's only 2 ¼” tall but wide enough to accommodate everything. It's a little cramped to work on but the trade off is well worth it.

Kona, thanx for posting the pics. You have made me VERY happy that we did not get together for a crawl on Saturday because of the weather. I'd still be licking the wounds that your TXT would have inflicted on mine!!! No more typing, I have a whole bunch of work to do if I plan on keeping up with you!!! &*^&*^)&* I'm going to have nightmares about that stinkin' yellow body... Vince

The longer shaft is for the rear axle, the front driveshaft is a little steep but both Revo shafts have held up fine. (knock on wood)

Vince, Your truck is no slouch at all! Sometimes it's just slider challenged.

From this point of view, it seems that if you rotate the tranny clockwise another 30 some degrees, the front driveshaft's angles wouldn't be so severe. It looks like it would line up a little better with the offset pumpkin.

Is that an option?

Nonetheless, that thing is sweet, I always liked the older one too, so clean!

There just not enough room... You can see in this pic everything is stuffed in there tight. 8O

The angle is really not that bad, it looks worse than what it is. The Revo shafts are way stronger than the old Maxx sliders. I've had it bound up in a few tight spots where it normally would pop or twist a Maxx Slider but it didn't phase the Revo shafts.

This is off-subject, but are you the only crawler on the island?

rockraper,

The whole rotated tranny thing was a result of trying for the lowest possible COG. I figured the more weight that was positioned below the top of the tires the better. I ended up mounting the tranny this way for a couple of reasons.

• The tranny case has a funky shape, the right side is perfect for slipping a battery underneath it when rotated.

• The Mammoth reduction requires the std mag motor to be rear mounted. As for the driveshafts, since the rear shaft takes most of the abuse, it made more sense to keep it inline and offset the front.

Motor, 75% of the tranny, battery and super rooster below tire height

I removed all of the plastic tabs and mounted the tranny from the two heat sink bolts on the front of the case. There also an additional mount on the back of the tranny.

It's not pretty but it works pretty well.

I was messing around with moving everything behind the axle, it still needs work. I’m debating on going the ¼ scale route. I keep destroying regular servos.
