TXT-1 Wheel Base Extension

Hey just had a question. Im going to extend my wheel base, just wanted to know how much should extend it by? I have all the parts to make the extended links and driveshafts.

Re: TXT-1 Wheel Base Extension

Between 15" and 16" seems to be the popular WB for a TXT.

I run mine at 15.5" and it works very well.

Re: TXT-1 Wheel Base Extension

I'm only at 15 inches, and I've never tried longer.

But it's oh so good.

Re: TXT-1 Wheel Base Extension

I'm currently at 15.25". I'm gonna be making some changes to the suspension soon and will probably stretch it out at least another 1/2". I had it at 15.25" because I had only front wheel steering for a while, got 4WS now so I can go longer and still have a good turning radius.

Sorry I forgot to give you your inaugural :flipoff: ... so.... :flipoff:

When will your truck be ready to crawl? I think the nor-cal guys are going to get together next weekend 11/12.

Keep an eye on the get-together forum to get updates.

Re: TXT-1 Wheel Base Extension

Here's an easy to find out your links measurements. First figure out where you are going to mount your links on the frame. For example I mount my uppers in the hole that the crossmember was mounted. Have the frame supported and your desired skid clearence hieght. Then you mock up your axles(with tires mounted) to the desired wheel base length. Make sure the frame is centered between the axles. Unless you want to run the rear longer than the front. But we'll get into that later. With the frame supported and the axles sitting on the ground and chaulked to stop them from rolling. Then measure from the axle link mount to the hole in the frame you wish to use. Try to measure from the center to center of the holes. Then subtract the the length of the rod end(going from the center of the hole to the end of the plastic) X 2 and that will give you your link length. Get it? Maybe I can do an article for the board with pics.

Oh Raymond. you can use your stock links and be at 15.25. pretty easily. Just an FYI. You'll have to cut your frame though.

Re: TXT-1 Wheel Base Extension

actually ive found that with stock links and cut frame i got about 4,5" clearance under tranny and 16+ wheelbase, everything is stock. But now ive found very big issue, i dont know how to make skid properly so it will fit, i want to do similar to what RCKJeep did (he inspier me :flipoff: )

Re: TXT-1 Wheel Base Extension

I had mine all te way out to 17.5 inches and when crawling it was.. ok, it didnt suck but when i lenthened the links i also lenghtened the canti rods to gie like 1/2 inch more clearance. like i said it was ok... now im in the middle of choppin my frame,im shortening my wb to 15.5 and i raised the tranny, relocated the cells to the rear axle, added revo shafties and cut the tires and glued on lugs..... my babies n pieces right now... litterally.
