Look out clods! The shafty gets a big stick
 

We hit up our favorite local crawling spot yesterday and I got to test out my new torsion TLT design. The TLT was doing stuff my Juggernaut could only dream of. And near the end of the day my Jugg took a nasty tumble down a rocky hill, busting off one of the front carbon shock towers. I kept driving it anyways only to break the other one...

So with it now busted I had a great excuse to rebuild it. After seeing what I could do with the TLT setup using a torsion design, I knew that is what I wanted to do with the Jugg.

I didn't get home till after 9pm, and around 10 I took the Jugg apart. By midnight it was pretty much done. I needed to make a longer front drive shaft though. The LHS opened at noon, I picked up the extra revo shafts right away and finished it up.

Enough chit chat, here are the testing pictures from a couple rocks at a park near by. They are great rocks for testing crawlers on.

I could crawl over the smaller rock from any angle. And the large rock, I was able to take it on from the spot you see in the pictures, but not any further back on that side. The other side was not as steep and very easy for the Jugg. The truck also handled the decents very well.



The wheel base is 17.6 inches and it has 5.5 inches of ground clearance under the tranny. I can flex a tire up 8 inches or so. Running a gd600 reduction with a silver 27t mabuchi motor. Super rooster and two hitex 645mg's.

Cole, it will be cool to crawl with some of you guys from Iowa. I didn't even know that Iowa had hills, much less rocks until I seen pics from your comps. And I have been to Iowa a few times for work related trips. But it looks like you guys have a great place to crawl.

That's not even our best spot. We have two other that are better.

Thank you Jon, for the inspiration on the clods :P I knew I could make it work on the Juggernaut after seeing it done with a TLT and then doing so with my TLT first.

Whats there to miss on the ol' Juggy? the paint job? Don't worry about that, a new body is under way. And I am having my sister paint the graphics on this one too. I have no idea what she is going to do, but I am excited.

If the truck performs as well it as it did on this one single rock at this weekends comp at Taylors falls, then I will be picking up some material and getting a star. The biggest pain is bending those servo mounts. But they work so well for mounting the servo and for mounting the channel.

but seriously if you do produce them ill seriouslty look at buyng one. one thing i can suggest is making them for other trannys also, something smaller, lighter.

Here is a link to a crappy vid I took with my cell phone today too. Its only 155kb, so everyone can download this vid. I was not able to operate the rear steer while operating the cell phone camera. With the rear steer I can crawl over that even quicker.

What about moving the tranny like 5 inches forward? Sure the front driveshaft will be really short, and the rear very long, but it'd get more weight up front obviously. You might even be able to hang it upside down as the motor might be protected by the tires at that point...

The new shafty torsions and sticks are really neat, but the motor always ends up way up there...

With the tranny mounted where it is right now, the tranny tucks up in the cab of the body. If I moved it forward I would either have to cut a hole in the body, or raise it for clearance. Most of the weight is in the front already and I am going to play with some lead around the truck tonight.

As for the motor being up high, at least it is only one motor. And down the road I will probably go with a brushless, making the weight up there even less.

There ya go. Easier too. :lol:
