Default My TXT based 12.5" 2.2 comp style crawler (w/pics)

I haven't seen too many 2.2 TXT crawlers, so I thought I'd post my latest creation for your viewing pleasure.

My inspiration for this crawler was CSR's Rock Monkey. I really liked the proportions of the TXT axles on a 12.5" wb 2.2 crawler.

I've already built a couple of TLT based crawlers using a home-built chassis around a layed down Losi XXX tranny. My latest TLT works awesome, so I thought I'd give that chassis a shot with a set if TXT axles.

In order to accomodate the offset tranny outdrives and axle pinions with the short wheelbase while keeping the driveshaft angles reasonable, I went with a 60/40 link setup on this one. It also helps to keep the CG biased towards the front.

After some head scratching on battery mounting, I ended up lashing it to the right side of the chassis. Because the motor hangs off the other side, it doesn't really upset the balance and gives pretty decent CG - better than mounting it on the top links like I did on the TLT.

I used a couple of thin angle aluminum rails attached to the chassis plates to extend the chassis to allow the use of the stock TXT body mount locations to make body swaps easier. It looks a bit ghetto, but is functional and adds only a tiny bit of extra weight.

I just got it running tonight so there are a few things left to finish like sleeving the links, replacing a couple of nuts with lock nuts, weighting and glueing the tires, and dropping the gearing a bit more. From what I can tell so far, it crawls just as good if not better than my TLT and should be absolutely bullet proof with the 2.2's on the TXT axles.

Here's a few pics including one with my TLT....

I ran one in different configurations, several things to remember:

YOur steering is about 25% less than a tlt

Your width is about 1" more than most TLT's

neither I found hellp out in the comps too much. I ran mine at the nationals. the only juggy2 2.2 there........wonder why?

I'd vote for you.....I think

I would think a 2.2 TXT would have even better stearing than a TLT if you used CVD's. Nice rig BTW

Here is a pic of both trucks at full lock...

The TLT does turn tighter, but I've also modded the steering on it by shaving the axle stubs and cutting the housings to allow for tighter steering. The TXT is still stock. I'm sure I can get similar results by modding the TXT as well.

The width is actually pretty close to my TLT which has been widened by about 1/2" using the Blackfoot axle stubs. Part of the difference in the pic is due to the larger Red Rock tires. What I like about the TXT axles is that they give just about perfect width for a 2.2 without having to use wideners on the TLT axles which make the steering a bit sloppy and puts more strain in the little TLT knuckles.

I believe the only way to get better steering on on the txt axles is to go to the alum knuckles. and or remove material from the housing itself. and man you run a very wide TLT.

I did all the same things to the TXt to incresae the steering on the TXT and none make any real difference. IT is a very cool truck and hope it works well for you.

I don't see how that's possible. The knuckle arms are touching the housing at full lock even with a notch cut in the housing to allow a few more degrees.

That is pretty sweet looking! I never thought a TXT would look good with 2.2s but you did a good job of matching everything up.

Never thought that a 2.2 txt could look so killer, great job. You may have just inspired my next build.
